Martagon Lily (Lilium martagon)
Description:
The Martagon lily at first glance is very similar to the golden apple (Carniolan lily), except it has pink tepals. On the tepals, which are curved backwards, it has dark red spots. The plant grows up to 150 cm tall, and one stem can have up to 40 or even more flowers. It differs from the Carniolan lily also in leaf arrangement: the Martagon lily has leaves on the middle part of the stem arranged apparently in whorls, while the Carniolan has them alternate throughout. The Martagon lily grows almost throughout Europe from lowlands to over 2000 m altitude, in both deciduous forests and on mountain pastures and among tall herbaceous plants. It flowers in July and August.

Description correction: The Turk's cap lily is at first glance very similar to the golden apple (Carniolan lily), except that it has pink tepals. On the tepals curved backwards, it has dark red spots. The plant grows to 150 cm, and on one stem it can have up to 40 or even more flowers. It is also distinguished from the Carniolan lily by leaf arrangement: the Turk's cap lily has leaves on the middle part of the stem seemingly in whorls, the Carniolan lily alternately everywhere. The Turk's cap lily grows almost throughout Europe from lowlands to over 2000 m, both in deciduous forests and on mountain pastures and among tall herbs. It flowers in July and August.
