Montpellier Pink (Dianthus monspessulanus)
Description:
Montpellier pink, which grows up to 60 cm tall, can be observed from June to August on sunny and dry soils in most of Slovenia. The plant is recognized by the flower with five petals that divide into numerous segments in the upper third. The flowers of Montpellier pink are not always the same color. Almost white flowers with only a slight pink tint or fully lilac ones can be observed. Montpellier has several flowers per stem, while the usually shorter Sternberg's has only one.

How can the petals divide into numerous flower baskets? They divide into horns. The description misses the essential point by which we distinguish this species from Sternberg's pink: Montpellier pink has several flowers per stem, the usually shorter Sternberg's has only one.
