Mountain avens (Dryas octopetala)
Description:
Mountain avens (Dryas octopetala) belongs to the rose family, flowers from May to August, grows from 2 to 12 cm tall. Common in the subalpine and alpine zones. It covers large areas. Loves calcareous soils, turf, scree between 1200 and 2500 m. It has abundant green foliage. Leaves are evergreen, bluntly toothed at the edges and densely woolly-hairy below. The flowering stem is hairy. At the top of the stem is a huge white flower. White flowers mostly have 8 petals.
