Only this year did I somehow notice the fragrant marsh orchid. It really smells wonderfully like vanilla. It is protected like all orchids and is rare.

The picture shows the common fragrant orchid, G. conopsea, as it has very long spurs. The varnished orchid is much smaller and has very short spurs.
