Yellow whitlow grass (Draba aizoides)
Description:
Evergreen whitlowgrass (Draba aizoides) belongs to the crucifer family, flowers from April to August, grows from 5 to 15 cm tall. Basal leaves are in a hemispherical rosette. Grows in rocky-limestone soils between 1500-3000 m. Loves rock fissures, scree, windy exposed places on summits. Usually found as the first flowering plant on our summits - example Storžič summit, ridge of Tolsti vrh, above Zelenica at Spodnji Plot and many other places. The stem is leafless. Basal leaves are linear, fleshy and fringed like scales. In the inflorescence at the top of the short stem there is an inflorescence of 5 to 10 bright yellow 1 cm wide flowers.
