On Tuesday we turned to these grassy peaks, rich with blueberries up to 2100m and mushrooms below in the forest too.
We parked at the free parking lot under Bärntalalm. We reached this parking lot via a narrow gravel road that branched off the main road before Sankt Johann am Tauern.
From the parking lot at the intersection we headed right over the bridge and continued along the road for quite a few turns to the junction to the stream. When we got out of the forest, meadows full of blueberries were ahead of us, accompanying us all the way to the Gaaler Törl saddle (2081m). From there we went left first up to Hochleitenspitze and further along the ridge to the ragged Gamskögel. The feeling on the summit ridge isn't the best. Block by block, all together as if everything hangs over the precipice. I didn't like this north face at all, where winter routes probably climb steep gullies. I noticed an anchor on one summit.
From the top we then returned to the saddle and from there right to Amachkogel. Of course at the saddle I refilled blueberry supplies in my tummy.
From Amachkogel the next peak Lärchkogel tempted us, but from this side it's not marked. Since the ridge didn't seem demanding to us at first sight, we set off there too. First descent ca 200m mostly on rocky ridge and then ascent on more grassy ridge to the top. From there we descended further along the already marked ridge to the flat area, from there right down the steep overgrown slope to the forest and through it to the path we ascended in the morning. We completed the loop in 7.5 h. Ca 1400 elevation gain.
These peaks are interesting due to remoteness, solitude, although we met some hikers, also due to abundance of nature and views from the peaks. Especially nice view of the Gesäuse range peaks.
