Yesterday we turned onto Tauplitzalm. A paid (16.00), scenic road leads there from Bad Mitterndorf. Up there there are several parking lots, accommodations, ski slopes and above all beautiful lakes. There are 6 of them. For a quick look at all you'd need at least 3 hours. There are also some caves. We casually checked out Großsee, Tauplitzsee and Steirersee. From Steirersee we headed up past the prominent, hard-to-reach Sturzhahn, across rocky plateaus with numerous deep sinkholes, around on a long path to Großes Tragl. Not much ascent, but considerable distance. 17km and 950m elevation, 5.5h. Of course more is marked, pensioners are a bit faster. From the top we then descended 55m and climbed another 35m to Kleines Tragl, from which there's a nice view into the valley and to nearby Grimming. Anyway from the top you can see a lot. Even to Schafberg. Dachstein is right there of course. We're slowly approaching its massif and the mountains behind it. Plans for next year… We returned the same way and after coffee at Hollhaus above the parking lot straight home. Too bad we were in a hurry, although there's a lot to see up there. In retirement there's no time!
