Today I visited Hochschwab and Karlhochkogel for the first time. Today the visit was quite crowded, conditions were good. I recommend the visit to all. Pictures say more.

No problem, that's what this forum is for.

Drive to Graz, then to Bruck an der Mur, then Kapfenberg center and on old road through Thorl settlement and end St Ilgen, where by larger inn free parking too.

Southern approach to Hochschwab. Signs say 4.30h, but I did 3h good pace. To Karlhochkogel free off-trail. Due to strong sun, photos, watching ibex needed another 3h from Hochschwab top to Karlhochkogel. Really nice, recommend visit. I'll repeat it!

As a curiosity, the European hiking trail E-6 runs over the summit too. We walked it in 2009. The trail in Austria totals 650 km and 12-13 thousand meters of elevation gain.

On Wednesday we climbed Hochschwab via the described secured path. Descent to hut and return via Heusalm - wonderful descent path, but much longer. Along the way visited peaks Zagelkogel 2255m and Hochwart 2210m. Total 10 hours.

Since this interesting via ferrata also belongs to the Hochschwab massif, I'm posting here so as not to open a new thread.

VanSims, both vias have too many pegs. Regarding that overhang, the difficulty would surely reach (E/F if pegs were in the overhang)... With just a taut wire over the overhang, we could talk about a pure F grade...

Also Bürgeralm, with its until recently so-called world's hardest via ferrata, belongs under Hochschwab

Arena is a serious project and is still among the top 5 worldwide... As for your blogger description, I guess from the pics, at that sign right after the second emergency exit, when the path turns right down to the arena, the other part steeply up zigzag with few pegs, you realized it's too much for you and wisely retreated... lpmežikanjemežikanje

In May this year the entire via ferrata, without the Arena of course! Then also the nearby Grosser Feistringstein with its interesting approach and view of the mountain mentioned in the topic title.

Some photos from the ascent from Seetal valley to Hochschwab.
The path is normally passable, the signposts at the start say it's 5 hours walk to the summit.

As I mentioned last time, the mountains in Austria are really close, no traffic jams on the road and cheaper parking. Views from them really invite in all directions.
With Vinko we did a loop in this range. We started at Bodenbauer parking, ascended to Hochschwab (2277m), returned to the bivouac, in between visited Ghacktkogel (2213m), Zagelkogel (2254m) and Hochwart (2210m). On the way we took a closer look at Grosser Beilstein. With such mountains nostalgia for youth really appears.
First beer after approx 7 hours at Häuselalm. From there full speed to the valley and the loop was done.
Quite a few suggestions for the next target. nasmeh

Nice. But at Bodenbauer parking now you have to pay parking fee? Last year it was still free.

On Saturday I start at the free parking 2.5 km below the Der Bodenbauer inn and cycle to the mentioned inn, where parking is 6 eur/24h. Continue on the secured path towards the summit Hochschwab, then before the Fleischer bivouac go left to the little visited peak G'hacktkogel (2213 m).
Descended via the longer path past the Häuslalm hut.
The traversed path is normally passable.
