On the western edge of Gesäuse National Park (named after the mountain group of the same name) in the Ennstal Alps lies the Kaiserau plateau (accessible from the towns of Admont and Trieben), from which a mountain road leads to the Klinke alpine hut (Klinkehütte) at 1486 meters above sea level.
We drove up it this Sunday and ascended from the hut towards the two-thousanders above it. After about an hour and a half of partially demanding path (exposure when crossing under the western walls of Admonter Kalbling) we arrived at the saddle between the mentioned mountain and Riffl.
From there it's another approximately 15-20 minutes walk to each of the mentioned peaks, from Riffl you can continue towards Kreuzkogel and with descent from this peak back to the hut make a loop, from Kalbling you can continue to Sparafeld. All mentioned paths are well marked.
Nice views of the other peaks of the Northern Limestone Alps - to the west the nearby Dachstein - this time due to fogs a bit less visible, as well as the three-thousanders behind it… Well-visited places, but undoubtedly such a nice starting point on such a beautiful day would be even more visited in our country…
The Kaiserau parking lot is chargeable only between 22 and 6 o'clock, the toll to the hut is 8 euros.
