On a beautiful sunny summer July day we drove to Austria to see the easiest accessible two-thousander of the Gailtal Alps-2038 m high Mussenhohe. We drive through the Karawanks tunnel and at Beljak turn under Dobratsch into the Gail Valley. On the way through the Gail Valley we see on the right Gailtal Alps,on the left Carnics -Ojsternig, Lepi Vršič,Poludnig. Further on are Krniške Alps -Mali Pal,Polinik, Gartnerkofel. Then follows a winding road into the Lesachtal valley. We climb almost 500m.This valley is at height 1000m.We drive to the village St.Jakob and here is our starting point. Right behind the nice inn is our starting point. This path is marked with No. 226.Most of the path goes through cool forest. We arrive at the nice spot-Rothenkreuz-1285m, where there is even water. Then we soon redirect to path No. 229, which leads us to grassy high-alpine pastures, but here they don't graze, only mow-also manually, if not otherwise. Here nature is strictly protected, warns to use traced paths. Two years ago at this time they were already mowing. This year due to drought the grass is extremely low and also flowers are less. Paradise lilies we didn't find at all, which are the sight of this area. Path from starting point takes about three to four hours-we walked more than three hours. We come to wide grassy shoulder-Auf der Musse-1855m. Here is some bivouac, cross and bench. We have then still good half hour to the top of our tour -2038m high Mussenhohe. View from grassy dome summit is magnificent. We see Lienz Dolomites, Hochstadel-2681m, High Tauern, main ridge of Carnic Alps-who would know all peaks. In the distance Italian Dolomites are visible. Down we went by the eastern path, which leads to the village St. Jakob on the east side of the village. It was a really nice, not too difficult tour.
