Rumer Spitze Starting point: Rum railway station (570m) From the starting point, where we can arrive by train or park the car in front of the Rumer Hof hotel, the path turns north straight into the village of Rum. We follow Bahnhofstraße until we reach an intersection where we turn right into Schulstraße and after 200m left into Langer Graben road. We follow this road through the village of Rum until it meets Finkenberg road. At the end of Finkenberg road we notice the signpost Vintlalm-Pfeishütte. We follow the nice forest path number 2/3 and arrive after half an hour at a spring where we can refill drinking water. After another 10 min we arrive at Garzanhof farm, where the path turns right (all well marked with signposts). The path winds through the forest. The next junction is at Kiechelberg junction, where path number 3 branches right to Thaurer Alm, we go left on the forest road, where after a few meters our path branches right (number 2). There follow steep 500 elevation meters, through forest, across Garzanmahd pasture to Vintlalm hut (1568m). From the hut the path winds through shrubbery and bushes to Kreuzjöchl saddle. The path is marked with 2 1/2 h. If we are at the saddle looking north we notice to the west the track, our path, through shrubbery left upwards. The branch is not marked, but with plenty of care the junction can be found. A few meters above the shrubbery the markings appear and from there upwards the path to the summit is well marked. The first trouble is already soon at the start, when one needs to climb the gully upwards. It must be mentioned that the entire climbing path is unsecured. Whoever finds this gully too much is well advised to turn back. After the gully follows careful walking on scree terrain towards the ridge. Soon we reach the fore-summit Rumer Spitze, where the second tricky spot awaits us. First one needs to climb the gully and then a few more meters up the same. Difficulties do not exceed second climbing grade. After the adventure we rise a few more meters to the ridge and above us spot the cross - summit Rumer Spitze. The view from the top is fantastic. From the town Innsbruck, across over 3000m high mountains in the heart of the Alps and surrounding Karwendel peaks a mountain paradise opens to the mountaineer. Whoever still has not had enough can descend along the western ridge of Rumer Spitze towards Arzler Scharte, for me it was enough, because also descent along the eastern ridge demands care to the end. Then again descent to Vintlalm hut for juice and pleasant talk with the host. Mentioned times are only those stated on signposts. Curiosity of this approach is that no elevation meter needs to be descended. Starting point Rumer Hof (562m) - Garzanhof (870m)- Kiechlberg (1028m) - Vintlalm (1587m) - Kreuzjöchl (2121m) - Rumer Spitze (2454m)
