On Thursday we headed to Totes Gebirge, to the second highest peak of the group. A little after seven we started from the parking lot at the camp near Hinterstoder.
In the valley there's still quite some macadam before the path starts rising, past Klinser waterfall, under the freight cableway, to Prielschutzhaus (1420m). To the summit it's a solid 1800m elevation gain from the valley. After coffee at the hut we continued left towards Spitzmauer. In the cirque below the summit we took the shortcut via ferrata Stodertal to the ridge, and then another cca 200m to the top. Ascent took 5.5h. The summit is really impressive, worth a visit. Already from the valley it looks like a mighty peak and gives an impression of inaccessibility, although technically fairly easy to access. Physically not.
We descended via Maisenbergsattel saddle and around the mountain back to the cirque and down to the hut (cca 2.5h), where we had booked accommodation.
