Before Mayrhofen we drive through a tunnel into Zillergrund -1450m under the mighty dam. For 3€
with the van above the lake to 1850m, from where it's one and a half hours to Plauenerhütte -2364m.
For a dormitory bed we pay 8€, if we're late there'll only be stew left for dinner.
Because there was almost 2 weeks of bad weather before our arrival there was no access to the summit.
We went in 4 groups of 6 hikers each.
First hour to the glacier, then hour across the glacier and another hour for the last steep slope. At the summit, which is very pointed, there's space only for one group, so we had to meet below the summit, which delayed the entire ascent. At the top there was only short time for views and photography.
The descent was due to thawing sloppy snow already difficult especially for the last group, despite everything we were all enthusiastic about the beautiful views.
In the hut the warden emphasized that we achieved the record summit visit in one day, and we also boasted that we are 4 oldest over 70 years old.
