20. 7. 2023 we parked in the garage in Täsch, from where the train connection to Zermatt goes. In Zermatt we bought round-trip tickets for the gondola to Black Lake Schwarzsee (2552 m) and set off on the 2 h 15 min long path to Hörnlihütte (3260 m). The path is very well done and secured in certain places and offers stable steps. Suitable for average hikers of a wide age range. We recommend the mountain trip due to the possibility of incredible and picturesque views of glaciers, mountains and proximity of the mighty Matterhorn mountain (4478 m). If you are lucky with the weather, like we were, you can count on a day that stays in memory forever. The path is easy, the views absolutely incredible, which encourages comfortable and leisurely walking in the spectacular alpine environment.
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn Zermatt is a village where respect for the past is felt at every step. Old traditional cottages nicely complement modern buildings, where the use of natural materials is also present.1
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn A huge number of old small and larger wooden cottages are still preserved. 2
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn At the end of the village, we see the Matterhorn (4478 m) in the distance.3
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn View of the Matterhorn from the Schwarzsee station (2583 m). The path runs across the visible ridges.4
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn Somewhere halfway to the hut. The path is exemplarily well-maintained and suitable for any average hiker. Below the hut there are some metal steps and ropes providing better access and a sense of security.5
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn Easily accessible hut at a respectable elevation, offering modern toilets, with the kitchen serving home-style dishes.6
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn On the left half Breithorn (4164 m) and Mali Matterhorn (3883 m), the highest point in Europe reachable by cable car (Matterhorn Glacier Paradise).7
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn In the center the Monte Rosa massif (4634 m) reigns, which according to posts on Hribi.net is diligently, boldly and enthusiastically conquered also by Slovenian alpinists.8
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn View of the approach direction to the hut. Part of the path is visible, deep down in the valley Zermatt, to its right on the sunny plateau the Schwarzsee station.9
Hörnlihütte Matterhorn Throughout the hike the hut can be observed, which on the picture is surrounded and looks really tiny compared to the huge mountain.10
