Undisputed king of the Vanoise massif. Grande Casse is often mentioned as "one of the most important peaks in France". The hut at Vanoise pass is entirely dedicated to this giant. Also a huge amount of winter/glacial/mountaineering equipment is "on display" in the hut. But contrary to expectations, much of that equipment seems really just on display there... not very visited... or maybe wrong time.

It rises powerfully above the pass. While admiring it, a spontaneous comparison with Triglav came to mind... which rises 350m above Kredarica, Grande Casse 1350m above the hut at the same altitude...
