IPP - Istrian mountain path / Istrian mountaineering trail

The first 62 km of the IPP is an interesting trip from W to E of Istria. I did it with two visits to the peninsula during the holiday days. The first part I started at Crveni vrh and ended in Sv. Lucija, a small village lying north above the Mirna valley. Next time I continued from there towards Greben and after undulating up and down arrived in Buzet, from where I climbed past ŽP to Slum, a place with a century-old linden tree, and further to Žbevnice. I finished this part at the Čičarija road, where the IPP continues towards Gomila.
The path is easy but long. In total more than 2300m elevation gain accumulated, although on this section of the path the highest peak barely exceeds the magical 1000 m limit. Our western neighbors are enthusiastic about path names in the style of “Alta Via…”, this one they would preferably name “Bassa Via Istriana or This low Istrian” winking
The IPP can be divided into arbitrary length sections, as the area is interwoven with roads and paths, so it's not hard to choose starting points to suit your wishes.
These days due to rainfall the path is wet and locally muddy, the top of Žbevnice is covered with a thin snow blanket.

So as not to bother with too many photos, I quickly combined them on my phone and you can see them here (resolution is poor zadrega): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu8gAotFLiM
I'll attach the link from the first hike later when I compile them.

Istrian rambles continue into the new year too. I've visited the peninsula twice already.
The third part of the rambling took me from the Čičarija road past the village of Trstenik to Gomila, Orljak and further towards Brajkov vrh, which I climbed via the Borisova pot, more varied than the IPP trail below it. From the top you descend directly to the ten basins, where you can refill your water supply. I continued to Veliki Planik and descended via the forest road to Poklon, where I started yesterday's ramble.
While the third part of the IPP is mostly through forest, the fourth is accompanied by wonderful views of Istria and the islands, and even the snowy Alps and Dolomites shine in the distance. First you have to climb to Vojak and then continue over Brgud, Kremenjak, Šikovac and Sisol. The latter two are interesting as the path becomes more '3D', but still easy enough to do the journey to Plomin with poles in hand.
Climbing to Učka we soon encounter snow and ice, but they are no obstacle. The path further on was dry. Last time there was quite a bit of mud and slippery leaves on the path due to walking through the forest, and even in the doline-filled world, snow persisted despite the low altitude. Apparently the snow is no obstacle for the first snowdrops to bloom.

But weren't there any wild boars? And what about the hut at Korita, no pics?

Congratulations on the nicely illustrated contributions about IPP. They could be a good basis for some guidebook about this trail and a supplement to the otherwise modest four-part maps.smile

Congratulations also from my side smile.
The path has changed a bit over time. The latest maps and GPS tracks are available at the following address ... http://istarskiplaninarskisavez.hr/zemljovid-ipp/
You can also get the IPP logbook for collecting stamps at control points.

Best regards Emil

Indeed, this IPP is now quite extended. I once walked the original one, for which they issued a logbook with descriptions and an "overview" map.

@ bbugari1, attaching a pic of the mt. hut Korita, but I really can't attach all shots to the posts, as I could paste around 100 in that case. winking It was ravaged, but I didn't meet any pigs.

@piotr, The IPP guide and logbook (combined in one booklet) can be bought for 30 kuna at IPS, 43. istarske divizije 13, 52100 Pula. Or call and order from their secretary, Vladimir Rojnić
098/ 366 101. By the way, a new one should come out in spring.
Good data on the trail, divided into 8 stages on the net, can be found at:

You have a rare booklet/guide smile

To me the map (yr. 2016) belonging to the trail is a missed investment, as it's quite deficient. The HGSS one is better, but covers only Čičarija:

@pp, thanks for the info.smile
Yes, it was nice to cross the Čičarija ridge on the old route when there were still no border obstacles.eek

I asked because I'm a member of PD Glas Istre Pula (also PD Elektroistra Pula), but really a long time I haven't been in those areas...smile
I'm interested if it's not natural to follow the beautiful ridge between Gomila and Orljak, or rather Mocvil peak? I walked that ridge several years ago, the path was newly marked! And right there were the most boars winking

Puljan (probably should say Puležan), who writes Slovenian well from the pen. smile
Not only on the third part, but also on the second part of the path there were traces of pigs in many places. It seems the coastal climate suits them well. big

And one more thing. This is an opportunity to express anger over the fact that today every footpath, at least in Croatia, is marked with Knafelj mark. Every city footpath, for pensioners, through city park-forest, a bit along the sea... today has Knafelj, which for me represents only a mountain path. I say this because IPP is now "extended" to Umag, but "classically" it runs only from ŽP Buzet onwards...
That part from Umag to Buzet is really beautiful, but it's not a mountain path, period!
Enough with the hyperinflation of Knafelj everywhere! evil

From Plomin I descended to the settlement Plomin Luka, from where I climbed up a partially secured path (a few meters of fixed rope) to Kuk. The continuation over Munac to the Standar viewpoint is gentler, the following descent is long and before reaching the Pećine pools very steep. From the old core of Labin follows ascent to the top of Oštri and further through the village Skitača, from where we descend to Crna punta. Here IPP ends, the tour in Koromačno or Brovinje.

The entire IPP measures 155 km and has approx. 6000 m ascents, for which I needed a bit more than 38 hours (unimaginably much for runners big)

Flower lovers can get their money's worth end of May and June, when peonies bloom from Žbevnice towards Trstenik. Above Rača village, precisely at the fork where left goes the path to Mocvil, they can turn right to Orljak, where in the beech forest end of July and August they will enjoy rich cyclamen carpets. From mt. hut Skitača towards Orlić there is the so-called sage trail, which blooms purple-blue end of April and May.

Three nice days, we used for hiking on IPP.

We started at Rdeči vrh, under Markovec the path is very bad (better said, there is none at all). First day we slept in Oprtalj. Second day in Račja vas. Finished in Poklon. The trail could be better maintained, sometimes lots of markers, sometimes some missing. In beech forests the path is purely nicely passable, but there are path sections that nicely tear clothes. We'll continue in cooler days, sometime in autumn. Met quite a few hikers. One snake and a modras.
