The Škofjeloški hikers group Četrkovci were on Monday and Tuesday - 07 and 08.10.2024 - on a two-day, let's say, excursion or hiking on the islands of Cres and Krk. Here I will present the island of Cres. For the first time we walked the so-called Promontana. It is a marked trail that starts right at the ferry port and runs across the island to the townlet Beli. The trail leads also past the labyrinths. We inspected the largest one closely. About a year ago I also ran it. A bit of water floods it, and it is also no longer maintained as it was a few years ago. Past the others we just walked. At two we couldn't even get close because of the water. We also go through a settlement with a little church. Here even lives the caretaker of the museum in Beli. He takes care of the museum and the birds that are treated here. These large birds are an attraction of Cres. A pair is a pair for life. They have only one chick per year. The chicks then fly off to Africa for five years and return only after five years when they mature. Very few survive. They feed on carrion. This time we didn't see them. Their claws are not made for tearing. The span of their wings measures over a meter and a half. The trail to the townlet Beli lasts somehow with pauses over four hours. These are of course white-headed eagles. In the restaurant which is above the town on a hillock we had half-board and sleep - dinner and breakfast - highly recommend. Now is the season and we were almost the only guests. The three most brave even went to swim at the beach which is under the townlet. To it leads an asphalted trail, but very steep. Back to the ferry we went by road - partly renovated, also already locally widened road - high above the sea. The road widening more by stages - this widening goes more slowly. So now Krk awaited us. That one I will present in another post.

velkavrh, you mustn't be offended if we correct your mistakes. I get them too and it needs to be taken in good spirit. It's not bad, since we mustn't allow names of peaks, trails, pastures or streams to be written only approximately, each their own way. Over time we wouldn't know at all for which peak or what else it's actually about, even now there's often confusion on maps. We just have to write with correct names, even if because of that we delay a bit more in writing, but it's definitely worth it nasmeh
