At least until mid-September there's really no shit here. After that yes, poskoki and lastovke fly south, until spring there's no danger. What kind of fairy-tale tellers? If half of what you're bullshitting were true, Dalmatia wouldn't be inhabited anymore. Dig it up on the web, when was the last fatal snakebite victim in Croatia and attach the link! Since the invention of the internet, surely not yet...... If it's as you describe, they must have more victims from snakes than on roads.

Pure truth; you're bullshitting, korlek! I stand by every word of mine! Take it or leave it! And do you pity too? Attach a link to serious thinking!

I don't know if anyone saw a snake stinging. That's called a bite, otherwise snakes sting only in cartoons

risto - stung, bitten or tasted, just changing the purpose of your post which was purely scaring people. Snakes are also here with us and not few, go read say Polovnik if you have that much reach. Sometimes some snake strikes someone, that's reality, no need to sell fairy tales here about some deliberately directed attacks to the neck and the like, we're not kids.

Let the snake sting, bite or strike, it's not harmless! Snakes (poisonous ones) are way too many in our hills (and on hiking trails where they like to hang out). Polovnik was mentioned earlier. Some time ago I went along a mule track that's described in guidebooks as ruined and unusable (in reality it's nicely passable and very useful), and it's clearly visible from the main road Žaga - Kobarid. Around 9 am there was nothing suspicious. I went to a small clearing where there are foundations of Italian barracks from WWI and tall grass and nettles grow there. After a short "walk" on that terrain (it was around 11 am), it "came alive". The tall grass was swarming with "those black ones". I really had to swing my poles to be somewhat safe. Even on the way back, while walking on the "unusable" mule track, "there head, there tail" peeked from the stones. I advise the "heroes" in shorts to check out that terrain in midday hours and then, when they get it, show their heroism further, but not here!

Took the opportunity to ascend Sveti Ilija. Path without issues, no snakes. Temperature around 27 °C all the time, but humidity quite high. Almost no wind on top, light rain caught me on descent, but nothing special. Met one returning hiker and one Slovenian cyclist who had already gone down during ascent. Two guys and two girls arrived at top behind me.
