Hello, for May 1st I'd like to venture across Velebit. I plan to do the trail in 3 days. Is that too little? (across Pohorje I go in one day). Also interested in transport to the starting point. Does anyone have any experiences? I'd leave the car in Paklenica and need a ride to the start. Does anyone know what the weather is like around May 1st? Much rain in that period? Grateful for any info. Thanks and best regards.

What does "across Velebit" mean? Would you go on VPP? VPP is divided into 9 stages in the guidebook and you can't combine 3 per day. Even if very fast, needs more days.

I'd go on the southern VPP. Across Pohorje 60km and I did it in one day. Is the trail more demanding than across Pohorje? Generally used to 40-50km tours per day.

Trail has totally different characteristics. If you want any excursion (e.g. to peak not officially on VPP, or cross small ridge), you'll climb too. Sure try in three days and report back, always nice to read about Velebit.

Although one day is enough for Pohorje, three days probably aren't enough for the entire crossing from Paklenica to ??? Recommend trying and if needed descend to the Adriatic highway for the bus from Senj to Zadar at 14h (get off at AP Starigrad - Paklenica). Or blabla car... Weather around first of May is usually very hot on exposed spots, recommend sun protection!!!

from Zavižan to Oštarije exactly 57 km Premužić trail, walked it in 16h, in one day. Not bragging, adrenaline carried me and wonderful views. Didn't go further. Watch for bora, almost no ascents on this trail section. Around eagle cliffs saw a bear too, recommend a bell on backpack. Good luck.

Heat possible, but snow and ice too. I don't go to Velebit on May 1st without crampons and ice axe (have needed them)- for impression one pic from May 6th last year. For logistics Dragec transport from Krasno can take you from Sv. Juraj to Zavižan (if road open). Otherwise get off bus at Zgornja Klada, walk cca 1300m ascent to Zavižan and you're at start. As for bears, I've seen three on Velebit, one ignored me (was quite far), two ran away from me; so please no bells. If no dog with you, no problems.
