Velika and Mala Paklenica

This weekend was spent getting to know the mountains of our southern neighbors. Paklenica, a climbing paradise, is also suitable for hikers, but really, it would be better to choose a month later due to the temperatures. We did dedicate one day to the sea, since we couldn't go to the mountains because of the rain, but instead we did a nice walking introductory tour through Velika Paklenica on the first day, and a hike from Mala to Velika Paklenica on another day. In between we climbed to the scenic Anića kuk, which has a marked southern path leading to it, its walls drop steeply into Velika Paklenica and are an alpinistic playground. In the multitude of apartments, accommodation is not hard to find, we stayed in Selinah, the neighboring settlement of Starigrad, right by the beach. Off-season prices are friendlier, and figs are ripe everywhere. Entry to the National Park is paid, for the weekend the best option is a three-day ticket that costs 100 kunas, one-day is 50 kunas. They are precise and you won't easily sneak past the entrance. You can also be checked inside the park. The canyon of Velika Paklenica itself is equipped with a walking path, along it you can see a lot, side branches to peaks are well marked. We climbed to the mountain hut Paklenica on the first afternoon, good two hours walk from the entrance, no time for more. The main tour for us was the hike through Mala Paklenica (entrances are different), through the picturesque canyon where climbing is forbidden, towards Velika Paklenica. The path turns into meadows at the top, the summit of Anića kuk despite its modest height of 712 is a real mountain, the summit part pleasant scrambling on really interesting solid and sharp slabs. We walked good seven hours, the only shortcoming of the tour was the heat and stuffiness, so the shady descent to Velika Paklenica felt good. For information we used the guidebook on Paklenica published by Planinski vestnik, map and languagejezik. And surely Paklenica will see us again. It was nice, in one way and another.nasmeh

Last year's Paklenica left a good impression, so it was already decided last year to explore it a bit more thoroughly. After inquiring, reading and complicating, we decided that the decision would be made on the spot. From the original possible plan to visit Vaganski vrh and Sveto brdo, as Wine already hinted last year, we "lowered" the program a bit. So we visited three different peaks, all in Paklenica National Park. First day after driving and accommodation a somewhat shorter path to Bojin kuk, starting from Veliki Rujn. Second day we tackled the search (and were even successful) for the via ferrata on Anića kuk, which isn't marked anywhere, but is marked in the upper part. It's intended for alpinists for descent and equipped accordingly (not too touristy). From Anića kuk we then went along the canyon edge to Planinski dom Paklenica and circular back along the canyon itself to the starting point, third day we chose Vidakov kuk as the goal, on the other side of the canyon and combined the visit with a tour of the underground cave Manita peć. In the evening we drove to revive my youthful memories in Povljana on Pag. For exploration, the Paklenica guidebook from Planinski vestnik served us. The data is quite helpful, only the ascent to Vidakov kuk is poorly described. In general, the markings are worse than at home, a map comes in handy, and of course it's easier every time when you know where you are. Well, last year we said we'd go on May 1st so it wouldn't be so hot. Believe me, it was veeeeeery hot, up to 30 in that rock yesterday, in the shade. There was practically no snow on Vaganski vrh and Sveto brdo anymore, the group we met said they crossed it only a few times on that path. Three-day national park entrance is 100€, five-day is 150€, accommodation you can also find for around 10€. Of course the climbing areas were very full, and there's something to do there. Well, the Vaganski vrh-Sveto brdo tour is still waiting, and Tuline grede and Crnopac caught our eye, and more. But when it cools down.velik nasmeh

On the 17th picture left is Anića kuk. Also on the 20th picture.
I agree, these places are real balm for May Day holidays.

PZS has a bilateral agreement with HPZ, which for me last year meant I paid 30 kunas for 3-day entry to NP Velebit. But payment was a matter of negotiation.mežikanje

We used the extended weekend to visit the Paklenica canyon and the surrounding mountains. First day entrance to Velika Paklenica - Manita peć and cave view - Zoljin kuk 847m - Vidakov kuk 845m - Tomiči - Paklenica. Second day entrance Velika Paklenica - Anića kuk via steep path - Jurline - Anića luka - Paklenica entrance. We enjoyed watching climbers who have their paradise here and we also got our share. Already now we are planning the next visit, as there are still many paths and peaks to hikevelik nasmehvelik nasmehvelik nasmeh.

Circular path up Mala Paklenica, descent over pastures all the way to Jukiči village where transport awaited us. The path from Sv. Ivan (no. 11 on map) is marked, but marks are poorly visible and attention is needed, namely on rocks there is lichen of similar colors. From the branch to Anića kuk the marks are renewed and well visible.
The path through Mala Paklenica follows the stream bed. If no water it's all OK. We didn't have that luck and during the hike due to high water we took off and put on shoes 5 times, which greatly extends walking time. But these are new experiences and we don't regret despite full-day hike in the wilderness.

Bogi please explain how you organized this trip, how long it took and if you went through some agency. We also want to go and I'm interested in the cost of such a trip. Thanks for the answer and best regards.
