This time we headed to the Žumberak Mountains in Croatia. Our main goal was the panoramic peak Zečak, otherwise we had a circular tour planned.
At 6am we set off from Ljubljana on the Dolenjska motorway. At BS Čatež we treated ourselves to morning coffee, then continued to the border, which we crossed at the Slovenian Vas border crossing.
Right after the border crossing we turned sharply right and drove into the hilly landscape of the Samobor and Žumberak Mountains. We drove along the Bregana river and followed it all the way to the Scout mountain hut and a bit further to the Dobra voda spring.
Here we parked and started the tour. On path number 7 we ascended to the village of Šimraki, where we switched to path 8. On it we continued through the villages Delivuki, Golubići and Pavkovići.
These are very remote villages, almost more dogs than inhabitants here. Zečak is located right above Pavkovići. We needed a good two hours to the summit.
But we weren't halfway yet, neither time-wise nor by kilometers. We continued eastwards and walked east for quite a while. Here in the valleys north of our path the Bregana river springs.
To our second goal, the Pljovica peak, we needed another almost two hours. We continued through the slightly larger village Dragonoš. Here we decided to detour to Veliki Lovnik.
The side effect of this detour was Gostinjac sv. Bernarda along the path, where they served Ožujsko. We returned to Dragonoš and walked a few kilometers on the road again, this time even asphalt, to the village Jarušje.
It was a very hot day and the lucky circumstance of these road sections was that they were mostly in shade. In Jarušje we turned onto a cart track and over the indistinct summit Duga draga arrived at the Orto ridge.
Along the ridge we walked almost to its end, shortly before the path turns left into the Bregana river valley, to which we arrived about 100 meters from the parked car.
So, because it was very hot, we drove just two kilometers by car to the Scout mountain hut to refresh a bit. Then we drove to Slovenia and stopped for tour analysis at the Rorman inn in Tomaževa vas.
