I was there two days ago when I stopped on the way back from the Dolomites. The weather wasn't ideal. When I started the trail it was even raining, in the evening on the way back the sun was already shining.

I did a circular tour past Auernig Alm then along the road further where the path to Kronalpe branches off, climbed up, then to the Garnitzen saddle (a bit of mark hunting, good that border stones are there for orientation), from the saddle up to Garnitzen Berg and then down also to Auernig and back to Nassfeld where I had the car.

The whole route is described in Lonely Planet Walking in Italy with Italian names which was a bit annoying because on site mostly German (rarely bilingual) signposts. I searched like crazy where to go to Monte Corona, before it dawned on me... zavijanje z očmi

The trail itself is marked in LP as 'Moderate' which I agree with, even though LP sometimes rates difficulties a bit strangely. To the Garnitzen saddle it could be easy, from there to Garnitzen Berg partially demanding, because the border ridge is very narrow and steep and you have to grab a rock at times. From the top to Auernig Alm and to Auernig itself easy again. That would then be two approaches to Garnitzen Berg. From Auernig Alm easy, from Garnitzen saddle partially demanding tour.

Yeah I rang that bell at Auernig nasmeh

Around eleven we arrived at Mokrine, parked at Forcello hut by Stausee lake and climbed the forest road to nearby Auernig alm. I got inspiration from reading Igor’s description and originally planned to go to Auernig for the bell too. But en route we changed goal, which is becoming a habit lately. We could have climbed both peaks, but preferred to warm up a bit in the warm sun on the way back and enjoy the mountain silence. Initially it was a bit cloudy and temperature -1, then more sunny and open, and temperature rose to +6. For Auernig alm we left the road and continued left uphill. Through the forest it was OK on ascent, on return when no dogs on skis I preferred walking.zadrega That forest part is a bit more annoying, but short. Then you find yourself in a completely open world, from where it continues over a wide slope towards the summit. Some people had already descended before us, but not many. At the top we were completely alone. Wonderful views, Montaž royally rises above the others.nasmeh

Sabina.7…Well, this month already the second time we had the chance to meet "forum mates"…(first on Ženiklovec with Ksen)…but again nothing came of it mrk pogled…I think we waved to each other from afar with Davide, when you two were already skiing down, we were just ascending? Pity, next time…

Anyway, according to the forecast more sun in the west in the afternoon, we didn't rush. We arrived at Mokrine pass only at midday. After "chewing over" the forest path, we looked around and conditions were similar everywhere…much skied off, also plenty of untouched powder flanks…we decided first for the ascent to Carnizzo. Sun warmed strongly to the top, all that could be removed went into the backpack…at top moderate wind, not too bad, so we stayed quite long…unbelievable what "360 degree" views such a small peak offers…finally prepared for descent…skied to forest edge, then dogs on skis again and up to Auernig, ring for luck nasmeh. Sun already quite low, so sat a bit and caught wonderful sunset…then quick back to start, arrived just before dark...Another wonderful day…

Again we returned to these parts. This time the road from Gallo Forcella to Auernig alm was quite flattened, driven, ok up, down not too much, but anyway we did not return the same way. This time the forest section was easier to passmežikanje, only twice had to remove skis as rocks were already poking out. Toward the top a track had already been made. We were completely alone on this side, at the top we saw six people ascending the opposite ridge, down which we descended and returned to the chapel.nasmeh Then we wanted to ski for two more hours at Mokrine-Pramollo-Nassfeld, but the ticket would cost 24 euros eekper head, which seemed too much to us and we returned home.
