On Sunday we were on the mentioned hill above Cortina. Ascent via ferrata Etore Bovero is quite airy. Descent via normal route is suitable for everyone. Quick trip approx 5h total but definitely not suitable for beginners. Recommend for cooler days, as it was really hot even at the top on Sunday.

11.08.2011 we went from Autocamp Olympia to this ferrata. Already the upper part of the access to the ferrata entrance tells us it's not for beginners. The ferrata is quite airy as we climb the pillar, but the protections are excellent. The start of the entry is harder and one harder spot in the middle where quite some exercise is needed to pull ourselves up. Definitely one needs quite strong arms. Descent on normal path 447, altogether 5 hours.

I confirm the above post, airy and quite demanding and at some points really need quite a bit of skill.

Great view from the top: Tofane, Antelao, Cristal and Cortina

Col Rosa is a rewarding goal. It hides in the shelter of giants, but is a real beauty itself. Accessed by demanding ferrata Ettore Boveri, descent is a walk for everyone. Due to the short path it is also an excellent choice for days when afternoon showers are forecast.

Our goal was basically ferrata Ettore Boveri. Much has been written about it, so we wanted to try it and rate it based on our experiences. Much of what is written holds true, especially that it is very demanding. The pillar in the lower third of the ferrata reaches C/D category, higher the difficulty does not exceed C. However, that is only part of the story. The ferrata is also exposed for a long time, which not everyone tolerates well. We encountered such a hiker right in the pillar. We met again at the top and he was really happy with the success.

It is also true that the rock is mostly excellent, with good holds and steps. The protections are impeccable and in all necessary places. The ferrata is definitely not for everyone, but it will not pose a special problem for those who have already encountered category C/D or higher.

The summit is beautiful and an excellent viewpoint. There are plenty of military trenches in its surroundings, as Col Rosa has a strategic position above the valley. We descended via path 447, which gently and comfortably brought us to the lower road 417. At camp Olympia we turned left over the little bridge and we were already at the parking lot. More in the photostory ...

Parking coordinates (near camp Olympia): 46.5722583N, 12.1170618E
We park at a larger parking lot beside the road and look for signs for path 408.1
Our today's goal proudly basks in the first sunlight.2
The nice path takes us all the way to the Posporco saddle, where we turn right.3
Soon we are at the entrance to the Via ferrata Ettore Bovero.4
The beginning is nothing special, there's even quite a lot of greenery.5
The greenery quickly retreats and the bare ribs of the rocky slope appear.6
We put on our gear and curiously set off on new adventures :)7
In front of us rises a vertical pillar towards the sky.8
Due to the good rock, we progress quickly. On the way, we overtake a slightly frightened German.9
The pillar is exceptionally long and the depth under our feet is increasing. Difficulty is C/D.10
At the top, some space awaits us for a rest before the new challenge.11
View downwards. We have just climbed up from down there :)12
The continuation is also exceptionally interesting…13
View downwards in the second most difficult part of the via ferrata.14
The steepness rarely eases and only for a moment.15
Finally, we pull ourselves over the ledge. From here on, the difficulty eases.16
In the continuation, there are still a few ladders over the mighty rock face.17
Just below the summit there is also some free climbing.18
The via ferrata ends all too quickly :) Group photo on Col Rosa.19
A group of Poles comes behind us. Fortunately, we were early enough to avoid them.20
We descend along path 447, which is suitable for everyone.21
The path is gentle and well maintained. It descends all the way to the valley.22
At the crossroads below we turn right on path 417 towards the camp.23
The weather deteriorates exactly as forecasted. First it drizzled, then the first snowflakes fell ;)24
Next comes crossing the small bridge over the swollen Boite river.25
One last look at the conquered beauty.26
GPS track of the walked path. It came to 11 km and 950 m of ascent.27
