This year's autumn is generous with weather and so we headed to Sexten again. They are close and one of the most beautiful mountain groups in the Dolomites for us. With our finger on the map we were looking for unvisited goals and first came Birkenkofel, also known by the second name Croda dei Baranci. We climbed to it from the Campo di Dentro valley, which has its peculiarities regarding traffic regulation. From the beginning of July to the end of September traffic is banned for all vehicles, including cyclists, specifically between 9 and 18 o'clock. The ban applies in both directions. At the beginning of the valley there are automatic gates, at the last parking lot Antoniusstein there is a traffic light. During the ban a bus drives through the valley with a regular half-hour line. From the parking lot we headed towards the Rif. Tre Scarperi hut on path 105. It is covered with stones in several places, so on the return we stuck to the supply road. At the hut we then turned onto path 8, where the destructive power of nature showed itself once again. This year we unfortunately saw numerous places where the environment has changed irreversibly. After some valley walking, at the next junction we turned right onto no. 9 and at the next one we stayed on it. The path gradually ascends the wide valley, the views becoming ever larger. Thus all the way to the Forcella del Lago saddle, where we finally branched off towards Birkenkofel. The continuation is initially a mix of rock scrambles, then a long but completely easy traverse of the slope towards the final goal. But right in this bush lurks the rabbit, exactly where the final goal is . After a long time of ridge walking, a huge 3G structure on the summit part first catches the eye. Yippee, is that already the summit? Yes, but that one is called Cima Piatta Alta, the real thing only appears behind. Birkenkofel, fortress of vertical walls, is right in front of us, it hid until the very end. First views do not look best, the poor path at the start is quite exposed, the continuation is not visible. Only the cross on the top of the highest pillar challengingly calls to itself. And we went ... Passage opened after passage, tower after tower. Secured are only the most exposed parts, the rest are not. Not for everyone, not at all. Slowly we push under the summit part, where a vertical wall has to be overcome. Here there is no fixed cable, but the most unusual rope I have ever seen . And precisely this rope is an excellent aid for the final ascent. With its help we were without trouble right on the summit in no time. Still obligatory photo session and then followed the return to Cima Piatta Alta in reverse order. On the spacious summit we made a break and let ourselves be pampered by goodies from the backpack and the warm October sun . The descent to the valley was still waiting for us, which proceeded along the same paths. There are no useful circular variants here. Coordinates of the upper parking lot (Antoniusstein): 46.6847853N, 12.3051439E
