When I was looking several times from Terz and observing the mountains on the other side of the valley, I suddenly noticed a bivouac at a beautiful spot. Of course I was curious what it's like, especially the paths around there. Starting point is the village Campolongo in the upper Piave River course near San Stefano di Cadore. From the village I drive into Val Frison valley and after about 3 km I park. Soon on the right I find the start of path 333, which higher up turns into path 334 and takes me to the bivouac. The path is nice, on it I meet two mountain runners who are eagerly chatting, then no one for a long time. At the bivouac, which is at a very nice panoramic spot, I sit a bit. Bivouac Giuseppe Caimi is quite old, beds are without mattresses, otherwise it looks not used much. I continue westwards, first descending a bit, then long traverse of the southern ridge of Monte Cornona. The trail is quite overgrown, but still well passable, when I'm almost at Valgrande saddle a more demanding part awaits. Over gullies and rocks even some cables and ladders are installed, obviously it was once an old military path. At the spacious saddle with nice view too I sit and snack, then descend through wide valley with nice path (mulatiera) to abandoned pasture, below which I turn right onto path 330, which takes me under Monte Col. There a marked trail branches right, which two trail markers from Campolongo are just cutting, in less than an hour over easy terrain I reach the summit of Crode del Mezzodi, vast views to Carnic mountains and nearby Dolomites open. I descend and below meet the mentioned markers again, they tell me Monte Col is just green clearing. I descend to the mentioned junction and continue long traverse 331, which brings me back to Val Frison valley at start. Magnificent loop accompanied by exceptional wilderness, also beautiful green meadows. Almost too long for one day, initial part of course only for experienced who master some orientation too.
