Ascent completed on 8.9.2014. Access is either from Domegge di Cadore in the Piave valley past the Padova hut or from Forni di Sopra or the hamlet Chianderens past the Giaf hut. We two went from the Padova hut on path 346 through the Pra del Toro valley towards the notch or Scodavacca saddle below the mighty Cridolo. Behind us, the beauties of the Dolomites were constantly on display, just illuminated by the morning sun. Just before the highest point of the pass, we turn right into steep pathless scree, which higher up narrows into a gully that is a real delight compared to the one we descended a few hours later. On a small notch, which I call Giaf, we encounter the first faded blazes and arrows. We reduce the contents of our backpacks somewhat, then a more serious and demanding ascent begins. The route in the rugged north face is poorly marked, here and there a cairn, faded blaze and arrow directing us through the wall right, left or straight up. Mostly grade I, sometimes poor II, some spots even II+. On the summit, where there is not much space, there is an expansive view over terrifying sheer towers. With thoughts of the demanding descent, we leave this sharp and exposed summit. We descend carefully; at one point we descend the vertical chimney using a rope, below at the notch we pick up the previously left items and descend the very rugged eastern gully. Lower down, we join the marked path to the Giaf hut and onward to the starting point.
