A few weeks ago we visited the friendly 2015 m high peak in the border ridge between Austria and Italy. The road takes you to over 1800 m, the path, except for the last steep meters to the top, is not demanding, so it's more than ideal for families with small kids. The only downside is that from Slovenia it's about three hours' drive, because there's quite a bit of rattling on gravel roads. More here.

The blog behind the above URL is, if I ignore all the 'yoga style' packaging and fancy wording, 'top shit'. Not only did I have my mouth up to my ears from guffawing, tears streamed from my eyes so I could barely read.
