Fineilspitze - Punta di Finale (3516 m)

After a good night's sleep in Vent, I set off very early before 7am on a 14 km long path and 1100 m elevation gain to the border ridge of northern and southern Tyrol, where for more than a hundred years the Similaun hut at 3019 m has stood on the saddle.
After 2 h walk I arrive at Martin Busch hut 2501 m, Berlin section. Hut is always occupied, guests mostly Germans who change daily. Some go to Similaun hut, others from Vent to Martin Busch hut, German hikers in whole groups. Landscape higher up gives impression of walking on the moon, where we reach the last part of the path with glacier, which due to some piled stones (no slip) we cross easily without crampons. Left spreads extensive Similaun glacier, quite visited. Some climb it even without glacier protection, which is strictly forbidden by staff in the hut. No extensive crevasses here, but some smaller cracks that can be bypassed. Anyway on glaciers no joke and full rules for glacier movement must be observed. Similaun hut is very visited and I barely reserved at home a mattress bunk for 21€ - private Tyroleans' hut, the hut itself still stands in Italy. Food here better than in hotel, ate Tyrolean soup with dumplings - excellent! Everything in hut excellently prepared for mountaineers with spacious entrance hall where gear is left, sanitary facilities with glacier water also drinkable. Prices moderate for this height, food 10-12€, beer 4.20€, soup 5€, apple strudel 3.80€, with cream 20 cents more. Family running hut very friendly, kids help too. In spring from mid March hut open for ski tours.
After excellent strudel I head to Ötzi's last resting place, 1 h ridge walk from hut to Tisenjoch 3210 m. Then over a step reach nice glacial lake at Hauslabjoch saddle 3279 m. From there ascend to Fineilspitze in two variants, left on easier descent path, or right on ridge harder climbing path. Both paths unmarked, few cairns and one follows them naturally by logical passages. Right ridge requires grade I climbing, with pitches I+. Mountain very panoramic, summit narrow and sharply precipitous on both sides. From Similaun hut official 2 hours to top, but turned out at least 2 h 30 min. Some Tyrolean said Similaun like beautiful lady everyone reaches, but western neighbor Fineilspitze mountain you climb more steeply and thus more fulfilling mountaineer-wise. Around 4 pm finish long hike and rest of evening with mountaineers over beer and talks in warm friendly hut. Morning hurry back to Vent 2 h 45 min, then waited long journey via St. Moritz in Switzerland and Maloja Pass 1815 m, descent to Lecco, Milan and Genoa for Sri Krishna puja. In 7 h and almost 500 km push to the yoga, as most mountain roads didn't allow speed. After puja across Po plain home with +600 km. Total drove 1600 km roads. Adventure A-one, LP zadreganasmeh

Bojan, those areas are very nice, but for us Slovenes quite distant. For at least a few more tours and sights in the Ötztal Alps area, you need to take at least seven days of planned vacation. Huts are quite occupied, so in summer it's smart to carry a light sleeping bag and bivouac bag and sleep right among the mountains, more practical. To Vent or Sölden the closest route for us is still via Lienz, Toblach, Brenner Pass, Innsbruck, Ötztal. You can also go via Timelsjoch Rambo pass 2507 m, but locals say the route there is longer with lots of serpentines, they also charge 12€ for it. Oh, just before departure from the valley there was the annual Ötztal bike marathon, which goes via Innsbruck, Brenner, climbs the first pass at 2100 m, then Timelsjoch and Hochgurgl to Sölden with 200 km distance and over 5000 v.m. The best ones manage the route in 6 h! In Sölden they were preparing the finish reception with lots of bike gear stalls.

He he, few days ago I was looking at Similaun and stumbled on Fineilspitze too, which seemed solo accessible, like Similaun should be, and Ötzi monument worth visit. Now also Viharnik's report.
I would also go on glaciers, but these young bulls probably too fast for me, though I'm not yet old junk.
