Last year, when Marjeta and I were climbing Terzo Piccolo, my gaze kept drifting over there and I already told myself then that I had to hike through this valley. Today I found myself quite early at the start of trail no. 193. At first it was quite steep uphill, higher up the nice path flattened out a bit and it continued like that all the way to Casere Rinaldo. There was a short break, then onward. The path was no longer so nice, here and there fallen trees lay across the trail, but I still made good progress. The surroundings are beautiful, or even nicer than I expected. On one side Železna gora with its jagged ridge, on the other Rinaldo with towers and rock pillars. When I reached the Rinaldo saddle the view opened up to nearby Monte Franzo, which I climbed last year, and of course further to Peralba and its satellites. From the saddle I descended into Val Popero, later returned and descended into the valley. From the starting point I drove to Campolongo and through Val Frison to Forc. Lavardet, parked at the junction for Sauris, then rode by bike to the Tenete del Fabbro hut, back again and through Sauris to Ampezzo.
