On Sunday 22.6.2008 we set off from the settlement Untere Draßnitz (hilly village between Spittal and Lienz) to Hochkreuz. We climbed to the summit via the longer path through the alpine pasture Oberdraßnitzer Alm and then along the picturesque stream Kirschenb to the plateau area named Kirschentörl. At Kirschentörl there is a trail junction from where we continued over extensive snowfields towards Hochkreuz. After half an hour trudging through the snowfield we reached the ridge (2650m) and continued right towards the summit, reaching it without trouble (6h). We descended via a somewhat shorter path which turned out untrampled and very poorly marked. Into the valley we then went mostly off-trail since it was easier to find passages than markings.
