Monte Avanza and Monte Chiadenis

We started at the central parking lot near the Piave springs. We went back some 100 m along the road by Cima Sappada and turned left at the sign for M. Avanza and Passo Cacciatori across the meadows. The path marked 173 initially doesn't rise at all, even turns slightly downhill, then finally goes a bit uphill and crosses the southern grassy slopes of Chiadenis, then at some point turns slightly downhill again and then finally just up. In the cirque where the ski touring route also runs and the marked path branches left, we went along the old mule track through the cirque, which higher up turns into a little path over steep scree and at the end into a rocky gully. At the jammed boulders on the right there are even a few m of torn cables installed, otherwise this spot is marked as II difficulty grade, but it's very short. Higher up we soon reach the mule track that comes from the west under the southern walls of Crete Cacciatorre. To the panoramic summit it's just a few minutes more. After a short rest we head along the mule track towards Cacciatori Pass, check out the caverns, there are quite a few here, and also pose a bit on the rocky spur. When crossing the hunting passage we turn under the eastern wall of Chiadenis and climb to the summit via ferrata, descend via the secured path along the SW ridge and to the Calvi hut for a drink. To the parking lot there's still a good 20 minutes of supply road, then we also check out the Piave Spring.

Another video from the top, it was unique, new world, new peaks, everything new and accordingly I'm still today digesting yesterday's experience with a heavy feeling and good memories, the drive itself and views of the mighty mountains are exceptional. : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ORnVk1y7Xc&list=HL1402343667&index=1

Yes, we hiked Igor’s paths this time..., his posts are often there too, including this one.
We did the tour in two days, in very different weather conditions. First to Chiadenis and then to M. Avanza. No special features on the path anywhere, maybe I'd just mention that the north via ferrata seemed much more demanding to me than the west one, well maybe only because we descended the latter. How much fun we had can be seen here

@ Edina, thanks for the idea where to go for the weekend nasmeh. We chose a circular path over the most beautiful peaks around Rif. Calvi. From it we first via ferrata'd to Monte Chiadenis, descended the other side, continued to Monte Avanza and there marveled at human stupidity from WW1. On the way back from it we also did ferrata Sartor to Peralbo and return via the Pope's path back to the hut. The described loop takes about 10 hours and given the beautiful and scenic path is worth every minute. The difficulty of the ferratas is described many places and it's accurate.

Maybe an interesting fact ... Rif. Calvi has a unique position and is very visited, but mostly day visitors. They head to the valley in the evening, so you can practically always sleep in the hut, even in August. For reservation besides Italian you can manage in German and English. Sleeping for PZS members, dinner and beer came to 33 € per person. They don't know beans, barley soup or jota, but you get two courses of different tasty menu dishes nasmeh. Coffee is Italian good, boiled from pot they don't know either velik nasmeh. Bill scribbled on a piece of paper, but it was correct.

All in all it's so close to Slovenia that well-equipped can do the described loop in one day without issues. Highly recommend nasmeh

Signs for koča Calvi at the parking lot. To it is a good hour1
Sometimes there was a quarry of reddish marble near the hut. From it all markers there around2
On this gravel road the ascent from parking lot to the hut takes place. Perhaps there are shortcuts too3
Koča Calvi. It has an exceptional position high under the peaks and wonderful view far around4
The hut has many comfortable bunks arranged in nice rooms5
An hour ago there was a crowd of people here towards evening it calms down. Only a few overnighted with us6
Morning preparations. Via ferrata starts 20 minutes ahead7
Via ferrata in memory of the great war. Italians call it *Grande guerra*8
The sun awakens behind Chiadenis9
There we walked the previous day10
Marker for the start of the via ferrata11
The ascent is not difficult, everything is within B/C.12
Most descend in this direction. Here the slanted, smooth slabs that hold poorly can be tricky.13
Here the path turns onto the ridge for the first time. It continues mostly just below the ridge.14
The passages are picturesque, the surroundings wild.15
Behind every bend something new awaits you.16
Fortunately there was no fog and the wild environment came fully into its own.17
All key sections are well secured.18
We go in this direction.19
No great arm strength is needed, but cool-headedness towards the exposed slopes is welcome.20
Towards the summit ridge.21
We arrived there from the right side.22
Finally the summit appeared.23
Monte Chiadenis and my company :)24
Continuing along the ridge is reserved for alpinists. Our descent starts a little back.25
We'll go over there ... Monte Avanza.26
There in the saddle the descent via ferrata begins for us, usually the ascent for most.27
On the descent, several chimneys need to be climbed, all with the aid of cables.28

The rock is good, holds reliable.30

Monte Avanza looks very inaccessible from the saddle. The path to it leads along the right side36
The initial part of the ascent to the mountain is over scree37
Above the scree, alpine flowers have found their place. Probably there is enough shelter and moisture for them here38

At the hut they even have a chicken farm, so the eggs are almost certainly home-produced ... :)56
