Today, with my mountain companion, we visited the house mountain of Forni di Sopra, namely Monte Cimacuta, which reigns over this area. This range belongs more to the Dolomites left of the Piave than to the Carnic Alps. We drive towards the starting point for Giaf hut, but park the car a bit lower than the usual parking and go along path 367 almost to Lavinal pass. A bit below the pass, we leave the marked path and head left along red dots, which reliably bring us directly to the summit from the west side. The difficulty is not great, and the path is not marked on the map. From the summit, we descend the same path, climb to Lavinal pass, and continue through the beautiful landscape to Casone Canpuros and further to Valbinon pasture, where there is a nice shelter. After a short stop, we go along marked path 361 towards Urtisiel saddle, which is at almost 2000 m; below us on the south side is Meluzzo valley, around real dolomitic peaks. From the saddle, we descend to Giaf hut, which has already opened, and after a stop with beer, which was well-deserved on a hot day, we briefly chat with the caretaker, who supplies Marjeta with guidebook of mountains above Forni, then descend to the morning starting point. If to Cimacuta we add nice circular path, the tour was more than nice.
