Monte Covria

Monte Covria is the highest peak above Peonis, a small town in the Friulian plain near Gemona. It is separated from the more famous ridges of Monte Cuarja and Monte Flagjela by the saddle Cuel di Forcja.

The usual access is directly from Peonis, but we, due to visiting the entire ridge, preferred the starting point below the saddle. The first markings for Monte Covria start at this saddle. The path is some kind of mulattiera, which in numerous switchbacks overcomes the steep slope. Good markings at the beginning are lost with altitude, the terrain becomes increasingly overgrown. Just below the summit ridge the mulattiera is also lost; it continues after a few tens of meters on the left side. The summit has no view; to get it you need to descend a few meters towards Gemona. For descent, based on own experiences, I definitely recommend the ascent direction zavijanje z očmi.

Coordinates of the starting point: 46.283486, 13.023020

Such low hills, yet so much pleasure. nasmeh

Planned was a loop over Col del Sole and Monte Covria on paths drawn on online maps, but on the spot, the path led me a bit differently - I don't have Tabacca 020 and so I deliberately got lost on the warm day.

Descriptions are by the pictures, but if you don't want to occasionally push through brambles and watch for the right continuation, the paths drawn on maps are probably less adventurous and more friendly.

It added up to approx. 17.4 km, 1300 elevation and 6 hours 40 min.
Starting point in Peonis; about a minute aside I step on the path - left here1

The path between Peonis and the road is a little masterpiece3
At the bend a few hundred meters along the road, a path through the forest appears - still fairy-tale like...4
... that in this fairy tale you sometimes find yourself amid blackthorn and brambles5
Here I step onto a pleasant path that starts on the road two bends higher up6
Col del Sole appears for the first time7
Once there was probably a building8
Harbingers of spring9
Like on Tura (above Vipava), only the rocks and routes were missing, but...10
... it didn't take long to spot the bolts and soon after chat with climbers11
The times on the board should be taken 'with a grain of salt'12

To top it off, a landslide. To the right of it find the path downhill, then over it and back to the path...40
