Monte Cozzarel

On Tuesday, still before the weather worsened, Marjeta and I drove to Val Aupo to the unstaffed hut Vualt, from there along path 428 to bivouac Bianchi, which was fully occupied with equipment of path maintainers. We continued along the freshly cleared path below Zuc dal Bor and below the saddle Fonderis encountered four diligent trail markers cleaning the path. From the saddle we descended towards the former barracks, but didn't go right to it; instead, in the first gully viewed from the barracks we turned upwards all the way to its end. The gully is not demanding, partially overgrown with grass. When the gully ended we crossed over the grassy ridge to the left and continued the ascent along the central gully below the prominent wall all the way to the summit or ridge. Along the gully it's mostly I-degree climbing, the gully is crumbly in places, so caution is advised on ascent. On the ridge we turned right and climbed a few hundred meters along the ridge, then turned left to the north side, where we bypassed the impassable part; due to the exposure of steep grasses we belayed with rope. Then from the north side we crossed slightly to the south side and climbed over lush green grasses to the summit. In the small logbook we didn't find many entries, from 2006 maybe at most 10, no Slovenes among them. The view from Cozzarel is excellent of course, so we stayed on the summit a whole hour despite the long return. We descended along the ascent path and returned to the start via saddle Fonderis and bivouac Bianchi.

After more than 12 years I climbed this isolated summit again. This time via the central gully under the west summit and along the ledges below it to the end of the ledges and then abseiled into the gully and then already along the described path to the summit. Extremely solitary, except for chamois and carpets of all kinds of flowers, no living soul anywhere. But I missed the Nepali Musa, who was on duty again these days. Namaste!

Very nice, beautiful autumn time. And we can still follow Igor's descriptions on the forum, who unfortunately is no longer among us.

Even the sky was raining tears of joy on Fridayvelik nasmeh, when after a loooong time I fell again into the embrace of the admittedly second sweetestjezik, the cross-border hill I missed so much.

The homely feeling hasn't faded even after all this time, quite the opposite... I really missed the Carnic wildernessnasmeh

We drive to Roveredo, shoulder quite heavy backpacks and already in the very warm morning we step along path 424. The trail is wonderful, nicely routed, otherwise more of a traverse, a bit up and a bit down, so we don't gain altitude quickly. Water in abundance, so you can drink right away and save weight on your shouldersmežikanje, since the last "self service" water is at ca. 900 m, just before the junction of paths 424 and 425.

At the junction where path 425 joins, we have about an hour to the former barracks, where we "gain" more altitude in that hour than before in threezavijanje z očmi.

At the barracks ruins a short break, and a look at our continuation. No trouble finding the big boulder, here we head directly right under the walls and we're already in the central gully. Well, the start, scree on scree, in between really good rock that holds, then again in the crumbly quarry, so a bit before the end of the gully we turn right and higher realize it would be better to continue to the end of the gully. We reach grassy slopes, no material for bunches there, but wet ground and manicured nails gone to ruinvelik nasmeh, haha. Here I hand over the reins to the faithful rope and my co-climber who watches over menasmeh. Then I crawl on the soft, non-holding ground, everything stays in my hands and soon I'm over, for me the most annoying part, where I crawl to the ridge and the view opens to... everything... here we traverse the north side under the ridge, then back to the sun and the final ascent on grass and, yessss, Cozzarel was only ours that day... immense joy, great views to everything we've done and what's waiting. We stay on the summit for a while, as gazing at Čuk is never enough. Below us "brother" Montusel, behind Dunja with wild Joveti, overgrown Plananica, behind charming Muzci, then Počimunih with Crostis and more and more....... after a deserved picnic we start a careful descent. In the gully just sliding and dodging moving stones and soon out of the gully, but our adventure just started here, as... well we like loop tours, even if longer, but this time we really botched itjezenzadrega. At the junction we choose path 425, which for the first hour ascends more despite descent, in between we had cleaning action in every gully without grass, not to mention the ticks we counted in hundreds, which a bit spoiled the joy and atmosphere. For the last flower we even ignored the branch-offeek, and descended too far to make turning back worthwhile, so each in our processing of fatigue and heat and ticks and all spiders wrapping our sweaty bodies, finally stepped onto the bike path in Villanova hamlet, hahahaha... followed cleaning action, I don't even know which one anymore, then back to the starting point along the road which was faaaar...
But we made a personal time recordvelik nasmeh, as the tour is already looong without our dawdling. All paths extremely nice, originally routed, ambience pure wilderness, solitude, to our taste. Currently plenty of water, but ticks are a big minus, as there are really tons.
