We headed to the hill in the foothills of the Carnic Alps on Dec 28 via the well-marked and maintained path no. 850 from Toppo, about 40 km from both Udine and Pordenone. The path is circular, we did its eastern half and returned the same way. The trail climbs into the forest right of the start/end of the second loop of the circular path nearby. It steadily ascends through the forest, similar to our Primorska woods due to Adriatic proximity, trunks often covered in ivy. As the forest thins, first views of the Friulian plain open. The path goes to grassy terrain and back into woods before the ridge. On the bare ridge, option to walk east to nearby lower peaks Col Taront and Col Manzon, we went left (west) on steep ridge to Davass pasture under Davanti peak. Path 850 passes the pasture but skips Davanti summit. We didn't reach it, chose a sub-peak for break after less than 2 hours' walk, views stunning in good weather. West and north Carnic Alps with foothills, NE Julian Alps, Kanin and Krn groups clear, and not unsupervised , Triglav - not highest here - watches too. SE Snežnik and Učka visible in good conditions. Nice view of Friulian plain with Tolmezzo to the sea…
