Monte Madrizze and Auernig

On this sunny holiday day there was just a bit of snow. Mokrine are not only ski slopes which are among the best far and wide, but there are also mountains and hills around that are always worth visiting. With a colleague we first headed from the abandoned barracks across the pass to Winkel hut, then up the shady valley under Konjski Špic, then right under Torre Winkel to Monte Madrizze. Skiing, pure ten with abundance of untouched powder, then we skied to the pass, from there to Auernig pasture and the namesake summit. If morning skiing was a 10, the afternoon was at least somewhat over 10. The tour can only be done on skis or snowshoes. To Madrizze of course also by cable car but that's for......skiers.

Igor, thanks for sharing this wonderful snowy fairy tale. Some of us really feel it only through photos. But I believe it's best experienced directly - and you two did!

With David we went today following Igor's tracks and climbed to Madrizze hill. It was quite cold in the morning, but as soon as you put on skis and get going, the cold feeling disappears. Today the landscape was of course a bit varied and the snow base quite different. I thought it would all be one icy sheet, but it wasn't. Snowflakes turned into crystals. Not many ski tourers, but the ski slope was very full. Worth a visit! smile

Today we returned to Madrizze on skis. We left the car at the abandoned barracks, then along the path further, sometimes no track, but not hard to find the way... Today no cold at all, in the sun really warm. I really like this path, it's very varied and solitary. When you reach the top, below on the other side is the ski slope and thus bustle of people, which is also pleasant. Views were exceptional today, so we stopped a bit and enjoyed. Down via the ski slope, then turned into the forest and along the trampled path back to the start. Occasionally had to take off skis.

When you don't feel like much and don't want to travel far. If you consider good 500 meters as not much and Mokrine as fairly close velik nasmeh

Pleasant little hike, spoiled a bit only by fog on the summit slope and summit itself. Path from forest edge up is muddy and marshy, so some zigzagging to find firmer ground is unavoidable. Descent due to fog same way, detour on Austrian side would be pointless with visibility of a few dozen meters. mežikanje
