Monte Palavierte and Cuel Mauron

Yesterday from Pra di Lunge (917m) above Illegio (Tolmezzo or Tumeč). The narrow road to here is constantly being repaired, but it's more suitable for vehicles with high ground clearance. There was no snow below in the forest, but in the second half of the tour among the scrub there was 5 to 10 cm, less on the return. There are some exposed spots on the trail in the forest. Rare markings of path 412 lead to the top of Palavierte (1785 m). Views on such a clear cold day, the first nice day in the continuation of the season, with freshly snow-dusted slopes and walls, - as rare Italian visitors write in the book - are "stupendi". They really are beautiful. To the unmarked neighboring Cuel Mauron (1814 m) we pushed through the scrub to the saddle between them and continued very carefully along the rocky ridge to the top with the broken cross. Views even better, wind and cold the same as before. On the descent we belayed ourselves at the rope railing due to slippery rocks above a small drop.

The road to the Pra di Lunge starting point is fully nicely asphalted and therefore suitable for all vehicles. The junction between the peaks is marked. From the Monte Palavierte summit, where they have placed a small cross with a new logbook, descend back to the junction and then continue through the brush on a nice traceable path to the summit ridge of Cuel Mauron. Very nice ridge that ends too soon. Although not overly demanding, there is a new chain on the slightly exposed part. Nice and solitary.nasmeh

Road to Pra di Lunge normally drivable, path to both summits without issues. Wonderful places with a touch of wilderness, despite markings. Princeska handled the more demanding sections to Cuel Mauron with flying colors, both up and down. Solitary on ascent and both summits, not on descent though, met more than on all this year's trips in the borderland combined velik nasmeh Great outing!

After morning complications with the non-working 24/7 pumps, we finally reached the starting point above the village of Illegio. A bit late, but nevertheless nasmeh. The parking lot is great, only the access through the village can be tight due to cars that locals park right next to houses in the narrow streets. Further driving on the road to Pra di Lunge is prohibited for everyone except the authorized. This is announced by a well-visible traffic sign. Some violate it, even a quartet of Slovenes did so, but on the return they got out of the vehicle and looked strangely at the mentioned sign. What exactly happened to them is unknown to me.

We took to the path on foot right from the parking lot and kilometers of asphalt awaited us. Expectations were high and along the originally planned route we would have avoided most of the road on the return. But not everything goes according to plan. The heat and the consequences of the previous day ensured a return in the direction of arrival. No problem, the next day it was better nasmeh.

To Pra di Lunge we covered a good five kilometers. There we turned right onto path 412, which has this marking all the way to the top. At first it's a forest road, which later turns into a nice trail. It rises gradually for a long time, then shoots steeply upwards. The bonus package is the scorching sun on this part of the path, as the slope faces directly towards it. We felt like we were in a cauldron, and it was only May. According to the sun exposure, there are extensive fields of ticks, which you can't avoid. The path goes directly through them. Despite using repellent and long pants, a few specimens of these invisible beasts found their way to my skin. I'm still scratching today velik nasmeh.

Monte Palavierte is a top-notch viewpoint and offers an extensive view far around. The cross is on the adjacent, slightly lower elevation. We were alone at the top, we saw the Slovenes on the neighboring Mauron. We didn't feel like going there, nor anywhere else, so we returned to the starting point via the same path.

Coordinates of the starting point (Illegio): 46.4323931N, 13.0629089E
Parking lot above the village of Illegio. We started quite a bit later than we wanted.1
We still catch some shade. The road to Pra di Lunge has a no-entry sign right at the beginning.2
In the lower part there is some minor scree, higher up it's completely solid.3
Pra di Lunge. Slovenes have a car parked here.4
Right turn-off for Monte Palavierte.5
At the beginning it's a forest road. There are enough signs, just need to watch at the junctions.6
Later the road turns into a path. In the lower part we still have a lot of shade.7
Beautiful beech forest has just received green decoration :)8
The steepness increases, so the benches make sense :)9
Amariana from the north side. From here it has a very atypical shape.10
Last shady sections, but due to the ascent we're already quite hot :)11
The path continues through a basin and extensive fields of wood sorrel.12
Junction for Palavierte or Mauron. The first is more trodden and reachable without problems.13
The path to the summit is of all kinds, from soft grass, scree, to rocky path.14
Almost there, almost there…15
At the summit, Monte Palavierte, 1785 m. There wasn't even a patch of snow.16
The cross is a bit further ahead at a more panoramic point.17
View of the neighboring Cuel Mauron. In the upper part there are some more demanding passages.18
GPS track. We walked 20 km and 1200 m elevation gain.19

Interesting. I have the peaks from this topic in a photo taken on Monte Forcelli. But for the middle peak (between the two peaks) I can't find the name. Bagi, do you happen to know which one it would be?

I think these are two peaks. From your point of view, they should be Cuel de la Ceit (larger left one) and Cuel de la Ruviis (smaller right one)

Those two are surely further to the right and not in the picture, thanks anyway.

To the right of Cuel Mauron is Cuel di Fedeveiz (scree peak), the peak in the middle (where there was a fire) has no name or is some kind of subpeak, elevation 1754 m.

Isn't it interesting, such a prominent peak looks like it but has no name, poor thing. After all, the panorama doesn't know it either, nor did I find it on the map. Thanks mary, now the exploration can end smile.
