Monte Pieltinis and Monte Morgenleit

A nice sunny day was promised and with Marjeta we drove to Sauris (Zahre). We had to choose a compromise as we had some skis and some snowshoes, so ski touring was out. We parked in Upper Sauris, then about 500 meters towards the "lower" one and along the local path marked 2e to the marked path 218-3b, which leads to the Pieltinis pasture. The first part quite unpleasant due to numerous ground avalanches that released above the path and covered it in several places, higher up all its beauty was revealed. Short break and snack at Pieltinis pasture, then on to the top of Pieltinis (2027 m); no need to talk about the view, we saw many mountains around that we had already stood on. Followed descent to Malins saddle, then some ascent again towards Morgenleit summit. Marjeta crossed a bit below the summit but I climbed to the cross and skied down a nice section towards Festons saddle, from there together again along the marked path 204-3c back to Upper Sauris, where that yellow Zahre was most welcome.

What a nice trip, Triglavski! Me too, unknowingly I occupy some "foreign" bench at the hut on the alpine pasture "(Sahaja Yoga)" - I don't distinguish mine-yours anymore. Lp-Rok

Why does someone go to the same mountain three times in one year? Maybe he's a bit crazy, maybe it's so beautiful there, or maybe he wants to get away from the clinginess of some.
With a buddy we drive to Sauris (1400 m), the highest village in the Carnic Alps. We park in the upper part of the village, then first to the Festons saddle and to Morgenleit, from there along the pathless grassy ridge until we join the marked path leading to Monte Pieltinis, short stop at the top, then descent to the Piletinis saddle and along the pathless grassy ridge over unnamed elevation points to the Ielma saddle, followed by a short ascent to Monte Torondon, return to the saddle and descent to the Pieltinis alpine pasture, longer stop, then towards the valley in the direction of lower Sauris (path 218-3B and later 2E). Really nice loop in a beautiful setting with even better weather. Of course we'll return up there.

How I've missed them, my dear Carnic Alps. Usually every year right after New Year I went to this wondrous mountain landscape and usually not alone. This time too I hoped until the last, but.... At Villa Santini the cappuccino is still excellent, but the friendliness of the sympathetic mulatto surpasses it. I could just turn around, half the trip is already done, but I won't. I drive towards Peči (Forni di Sopra), to the Free Republic of Ampezzo, there I turn into the fairy-tale Sauris. The road is slightly snowy, but it doesn't bother me, my car can handle it. I choose between starting point Lateis and Lower Sauris, I choose the latter. I drive along the road above the world-famous Wolf prosciutteria. At some bend I park. Below Lake Sauris, above it Monte Tinisa (what a beautiful traverse I did in 2008). There's quite a lot of snow, about 30-40 cm. I go along path 218. The first part is unknown to me, but soon I reach the path I did in 2009. No one has walked before me, innocent whiteness, it always captivates me. I love such conditions. At the sign on the ridge, when the view opens to the Pieltinis summit, I'm a bit disappointed. I expected it to be wind-blown, but that the summit is rounded, no way. Take it or leave it and I took it. In a slight descent I go towards the Pieltinis alpine pasture, continue along the road. It's windy, wind carries snow, sun is shining dimly, but I'm indescribably happy. Also because of nice memories. I persist towards the summit, last 15 minutes on foot. From the Morgenleit direction I see a group of four coming. In better conditions I'd wait for them, this time I just go back down to the skis. It doesn't take long and I'm skiing, well not really proper skiing, actually sliding down the road. At the Pieltinis alpine pasture I stop, as I always did at least three times before. It's nice here, even if alone. I already know all the buildings, but still enter the old part. Good energy here. I put on skins and descend slightly, followed by ascent to the sign, then remove skins and ski all the way to the car. It was nice. I dedicate the ascent to Marjeta, who left forever last summer....zavijanje z očmi

This year winter came early and with it the time to visit this nice panoramic mountain above Sauris.

Starting point same as last year, snow at the beginning a bit less, but manageable with skis. In the upper part we ascended along an initially wide panoramic ridge that narrows towards the end to a still skiable ridge. Weather such that you can't wish for better, perfect calm. Skiing back wasn't bad either. I'll return for sure mežikanje.

29.6.2021, Visit to Sauris lake we spiced up with visit to summits and pastures above the lake. Starting from Sauris di Sopra along local forest road 2E to pl-pieltinis, for ascent to Torondon mountain 2019m, we go straight up the slope above the pasture and then right to the summit. Continued along the ridge above pieltinis pasture to Monte Pieltinis 2027m. About the views I wouldn't waste words; there were dozens of them. Continued to Malins saddle and ascent to monte Morgenleit. Descended along path 204 back to start and on the way back we refreshed a bit in the turquoise blue of Sauris lake. Karnijci are worth visiting and time spent in them. Circular path completed, with it and memories of the legend of these mountains Igor Z...R.I.P.

Four-three-two-one velik nasmeh
Four (4.2.), three (third time up here), two (hills I climbed), one (first time alone)

On the road(s) to Sella Festons lots of water ice, but goes without crampons, just walk on the side. Given the temperatures it's certainly even more bare today than it was on Sunday. Further up to Pieltinis quite some snow, in between also quite bare, nice and packed track, even on the way back no sinking, despite high temperatures. Wonderful hike on a beautiful sunny day, even today I'm completely enchanted by the beauties I experienced nasmeh

Mountain Morgenleit is 1971 m high and is located between
Val/Pesarina valley and val/Sauris valley. We parked in the center of Sauris di Sopra village and from there went with our doggy Dora along the marked path 204 to the summit. This mountain is quite visited, as the views are really fantastic. You can also see Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Last Sunday I was back in these parts, this time I went to Pieltinis for the first time from Sauris di Sotto. Free parking spots in the village as many as the heart desires, I left the car at Wolf. Then along asphalt to the hiking path junction and along it to the saddle, where it's straight close to Malga Pieltinis, but I turned left onto the ridge, perhaps more of a spine, and climbed along it to the summit. Along the way I also stepped on Monte Hoache Lanar, the path goes over it. That was the extra summit today instead of Morgenleit, which I usually visited along the way if starting from Sauris di Sopra. There were a few of us at the summit, but for a short time I also enjoyed solitude. Weather and conditions on the path divine, in dry grasses here and there some snow, during descent already so much warmer that what was frozen in the morning became muddy on the way back. I still caught larches, some of them shining more beautifully than gold. On the way down I made a detour via Malga Pieltinis, there a nice little lake, a bit before bench and tables, where it's worth sitting a bit, not only at the summit and along the path, also here enchanting views. Arriving back in the village I find out Wolf is closed, so I buy goodies of all sorts in Trbiž. It was great, when snow whitens these areas with a sufficiently thick snow blanket, I'll return with touring skis velik nasmeh
