Monte Quarin-274m

This hill would practically be classified right into the Goriška Hills. It's already in Italy near our Medana.

It's actually a low hill above the settlement Krmin high only 274m. Because it's an excellent viewpoint on the wider Brda area it served already before our era as a fortress. There was a Celtic fortress here, then Roman. In the 12th century they even surrounded it with a double wall which is still visible today. Then the owners were Habsburgs. Venetians defeated them, who destroyed the fortress and rebuilt it. Apparently it was never fully restored. The central semicircular fortress as well as ruins still stand today. Can't enter the interior-seems they are renovating it. But this hill is an excellent viewpoint over the Brda on both sides of the border.

Several marked and unmarked paths lead to this easy hill. We started in Slovenia in the village Medana. We even had a local guide who led us also on more unknown little paths. More a few-hour stroll than a serious hike it went between vineyards, along the stream, through forest, on abandoned cart tracks. We needed somehow two and a half hours to reach the top. Down we went by another southern path. Below us the settlement Krmin was visible. This easy rambling in the Brda properly aired our lungs. Such enjoying on fresh air fits well.

Branko, Krmin Hill is not a national park, as you wrote. But it has a connection to Vogrsko Castle. Make a little effortjezen
