Monte Rosa is the largest mountain massif in Europe, located on the border between Italy and Switzerland, between Zermatt on one side and Alagna on the other. Its main peak is Dufourspitze at 4634 m, which is also Switzerland's highest peak and the second highest in the Alps, followed by many similarly high peaks. Rok and I conquered in this massif Vincent Pyramid 4215 m, Signalkuppe 4554 m and Parrotspitze 4432 m.

Thursday, 3 August
The day when Rok and I finally went high into the Pennine Alps to conquer 4000ers. At one pm we drove from Cerknica over Fernetiči border, past Milan to Alagna Valsesia village. Trip took less than 7 hours, 600 km accumulated. We settled in the camp, ate and prepared for next day.

Friday, 4 August
After breakfast we took three gondolas to the actual start of ascent, Punta Indren 3260 m. Here we stepped on glacier immediately, but it posed no problems. Followed short climbing part and quickly reached second glacier to cross to reach Capanna Gnifetti hut 3647 m. Behind the hut starts the real, at times scary glacier where roping is necessary. Same day we did acclimatization ascent to Vincent Pyramid 4215 m. Although we had all needed to sleep in bivouac on Balmenhorn 4167 m we changed mind and descended to Gnifetti hut, where luckily got accommodation without reservation. I felt quite sick, but after hearty dinner improved.

Saturday, 5 August
At two am we headed to Signalkuppe 4554 m, where the highest building in Europe is placed - Capanna Regina Margherita hut. Initial path same as previous day when we did successful acclimatization. We reached summit soon after sunrise, views over entire Alps spectacular, morning quite cold and windy. In the hut we drank the best possible coffee and soon said goodbye. We ascended also to Parrotspitze 4432 m, which has really elegant summit ridge. Followed descent on already quite worn snow to hut and further to gondolas that took us back to Alagna. Slept in camp and next day returned home.

Monte Rosa ... symbol of a mighty mountain massif. My friend and I set off there at the beginning of August. It was nice and it was summer hot.

The full story is presented on the link below, which will take you through words and photos into the mountain world that demands respect from us.

Enjoy reading nasmeh

Best regards, Rok

This weekend we were on Monte Rosa. We had fantastic weather. We enjoyed the whole route and everyone reached the summit successfully. We were only sorry that the skis stayed at home.
