Nice day in the Carnic Alps; we used it to visit the excellent viewpoint Monte Volaia. It is 2472 m high and lies in the border ridge above Wolayersee lake. Several approaches lead to the final ascent to the summit; we followed path 176 all the way. It starts in the valley near the Edelweiss hut.

To the summit part the path is relatively easy; some more exposure only in steep grass just before the junction of paths 176 and 176A. The latter descends towards Cima Ombladet; we continued towards the ridge on the known 176. We met more and more military objects, which due to wide views is not so strange. The army knew where to place observatories.

Monte Volaia is right at the back relative to the approach direction, reached by bypassing slopes of the apparently higher summit right before us. The path becomes more demanding when it enters rocky terrain. Well marked throughout but not much secured. Thus exposure is large at some places and not for those who have issues with it. We returned by the approach path; other combinations possible too.

Coordinates of start (Edelweiss hut): 46.5885803N, 12.8502464E

We start at the parking lot by Edelweiss hut and continue on the *Krokarjeva pot*.

Soon official markers for path 176 also appear.

Along the pleasant path we continuously ascend the valley of the Rio Chianaletta stream.

In its headwaters is also the abandoned Casera Chianaletta.

Above it rises a grassy ridge on which the approach path runs.

Higher up we encounter a herd of goats and sheep brought by the shepherd from the nearby Casere Chiampei.

The path runs right by this rock, visible from afar.

Soon we reach a path junction. We continue to follow path 176.

An excellent path crosses at the start of the slope.

Monte Volaia in the background, summit access is around via the slopes.

Everywhere there are remnants from the First World War.

A via ferrata from Austria ran here a few years ago but was carried away by a landslide.

Exposure increases, but the path remains comfortable in places.

Soon it becomes entirely rocky, with sufficient markers.

Colina, one of the nice little villages under Coglians was our starting point. We park in the square in the middle of the village, of course no warden awaits us, no prohibition either. The start of path 176 - vultures' path, is a bit lower down the road towards Tolazzi, at the Edelweiss house. The trail first through the forest then across wide plateaus leads to the ridge below the Sasso Nero summit, where there are plenty of war remains. Given that the ridge was the first front line, it's understandable that the access to the summit follows old military passages, which aren't exactly for everyone. We descended via path 176a to Ombladet saddle, but since the views from the summit were more limited, we decide to skip Ombladet summit and descend directly to the village via path 141. A bit lower on the Chiampel pasture a surprise awaits us, as the sheep herd besides three dogs is guarded by two black shepherds.

Thanks, although the pictures aren't nice, well at least some. I haven't managed to photograph the clouds satisfactorily yet, there's always something even without wind zavijanje z očmi
