Wednesday, 15.8.2018 Volaia lies or stands right on the border with Austria, that's why they call it Wolayer Kopf over there. I started a bit ahead from Pierabecha (near Forni Avoltri) and went via paths 141, 176a and 176 to the summit. The summit section is relatively demanding, terrain exposed, path narrow, some spots collapsed, no fixed protection on the whole route. Princeska proved herself again and passed the dog alpinism exam with distinction by my criteria On the descent I recommend a detour to nearby Cima Ombladeet. Wonderful trip https://tubojan.blogspot.com/2018/08/monte-volaia.html

Colina, one of the nice little villages under Coglians was our starting point. We park in the square in the middle of the village, of course no warden awaits us, no prohibition either. The start of path 176 - vultures' path, is a bit lower down the road towards Tolazzi, at the Edelweiss house. The trail first through the forest then across wide plateaus leads to the ridge below the Sasso Nero summit, where there are plenty of war remains. Given that the ridge was the first front line, it's understandable that the access to the summit follows old military passages, which aren't exactly for everyone. We descended via path 176a to Ombladet saddle, but since the views from the summit were more limited, we decide to skip Ombladet summit and descend directly to the village via path 141. A bit lower on the Chiampel pasture a surprise awaits us, as the sheep herd besides three dogs is guarded by two black shepherds.

Thanks, although the pictures aren't nice, well at least some. I haven't managed to photograph the clouds satisfactorily yet, there's always something even without wind . Anyway, yes I have a new phone
