Monte Zermula 2143m asl, via ferrata

Today we went to the summit of Monte Zermula in the company of Miha, Tinky and me. The mentioned peak is located in the Carnic Alps not far from the more famous ski resort Nassfeld. We drove to the starting point from the direction of KG, Trbiž and continued to Pontebba, where we don't turn towards Nassfeld but one junction further. From there the road takes us another cca 30 min to the starting point. The weather wasn't favorable to us today, cloudy and foggy, but good company made the path more interesting. We'll surely repeat it in nice weather, for descent via path 442.

Not the biggest fan of ferratas, but Metod provoked me to join. Didn't regret it, though due to fog and wet rock climbing wasn't a walk as Red Bull would say. Got a bit lost too, because fog hid the summit cross. All's well that ends well, all good. We'll go again.

Tablje, Pontebba - Rio Secco, left the car there because the road to Lonice pass - Cason di Lanza is officially closed now. Huge broken trees along the road. We extended the path by almost a good hour, we saw that some go anyway despite the ban. Landscape fully autumnal, beauty of golden yellow larches accompanies the whole first part of the path, then you enter rocks and are in their world for a good hour. When you exit, a ten-minute easier ascent awaits. From the top we went then along the upper path by numerous caves and remains of military forts. The trail is nice and offers great views all around.
From here onwards there is a roadblock.1
Rio Secco. Obstacles have been removed, but due to liability it is still prohibited.2
Some go anyway and the road is actually passable.3

On Sunday we were there; from Lonice pass up via ferrata and down (except drivers) the other side on path 442 over pasture Zermula to Ne lut hut on road to Paularo. Road to saddle from Pontebba officially closed, but told it applies only weekdays due to timber salvage after storm. Path in fairly good condition, only upper part 1km really needs care. Access to ferrata still partly snowy, and elsewhere flowers show snow retreated just couple days before. Attention, on descent we used has a stupid sign marking left detour saying trail 442 impassable due to landslide. Actually trail is impassable - the detour onezavijanje z očmi.

What a beautiful day today in Carnic Alps. Drove to Lonice pass. Up via ferrata, down ridge path. Stayed on summit over an hour and a half, most already gone back to pass when I remained admiring views. Didn't meet any Slovenes. Road officially closed but today passable, during week probably not.

After a really long time, Monte Zermula came up again, which adorns the horizon on the southern side of the Cason di Lanza pass, locally Lonice. We ascended it via the Amici della Montagna ferrata, descended on the opposite side via the nice mule track. The ferrata in the initial, steepest part is so polished that not even chewing gum would stick to the rocks, higher up there's no more of that problem. The protections are sufficient everywhere and in excellent condition. The descent is a great stroll along the scenic mule track, during our visit we also admired the abundance of alpine flowers nasmeh. Unfortunately we ran out of time for the nearby Zuc della Guardia, but we have an excuse for a repeat visit velik nasmeh.

As I already mentioned in the Veliki Koritnik thread, the road from Pontebba to Cason di Lanza pass is in solid condition. Down there are some asphalt breaks that give a rodeo feeling. Meeting oncoming traffic can also be tricky due to the narrow road, especially if both drivers aren't skilled.
We park at Lonice pass and head towards the former barracks1
Already quite some way before the barracks there is a sign by the road directing via ferrata candidates right into the hill2
In the lower part there is quite some greenery, higher up the landscape opens.3
The markings are special. Besides the official ones there are also yellow circles here.4
View back to Veliki Koritnik, from where we have just come.5
Beyond that edge the view to the wall will open, along which the ferrata runs.6
The very faded markings also point to this.7
We go into this wall. A faint path leads there, which is easily missed.8
Official sign … Ferrata Amici della montagna, category roughly B/C.9
The starting section is polished, higher up it is much better.10
Multikulti chat :)11
We leave the Italian woman behind and continue the ascent.12
Protection is sufficient, rock bp13
The via ferrata is not the easiest, but nowhere is there a particular feeling of exposure.14
Looks like we're going to Torre Clampil, but it's not even remotely as demanding :)15
Just a few more pulls …16
And we're already in the final section17
As we cross over the ridge, a military path awaits us18
Monte Zermula in blooming attire19
We overcome some more steepness and we're already at the top20
One more group photo for memory, followed by well-deserved rest21
One of the few birds that doesn't lack treats :)22
We descend along the mule track marked 442 on the southern side of the slope23
Military chapel along the path, in the background Sernio and Grauzaria24
The mule track runs in the safe shelter of the Zermula ridge25
All top-notch. Each one is a rewarding goal in itself, but many can be combined into a full-day tour26
Former barracks, now nicely renovated Rifugio Alpini27
We close the loop. Despite the late hour, there is still a lot of tin around28
GPS track of the hiked path. It measured 6 km and 600 m elevation gain29

On the second day of my trip around the Carnics, I set Monte Zermula as my goal. I set off early along the path to the ferrata entrance. As Bagi already wrote, the entry part surprised me with, for ferratas of this type, surprisingly worn smoothness. So after climbing a few meters and since I didn't know what to expect next, I rather turned back and accepted that plans need to be changed. Good thing the friendly newcomers convinced me to return jezik, because the ferrata higher up is very nice and easy. Thanks again and let me know, I have quite some pics... With them I also climbed to Zuc della Guardia, which has a nice and not too difficult ferrata.
