Sunday was perfect for viewing the remains of the carnage of World War 1. The nice sunny day immediately drowned out memories of the dark days and the suffering of soldiers on both sides. The ascent was done along a beautiful mule track from the south side below the Plöckenpass or Passo di Monte Croce Carnico pass, first to the summit of Kleiner Pal, then crossing along the ridge and ascent to Freikofel, and descent to the Palgrande di Sotto pasture, past the Pal Piccolo pasture and back to the starting point.

Pal Piccolo (Kleiner Pal)

Due to unstable weather something shorter, also exploratory. Up the Austrian side, down the Italian. I twice to the summit, princess only once, result of cold and wind before and sunshine after. Paths are exemplarily maintained, on Austrian side also mown, caution when exploring trenches and tunnels and whatever military of course not amiss. Great trip nasmeh

A few days ago from Plöckenpass to Pal Piccolo. Started on path 401 Italian side, then turned to Vetta Chapot (401b), war remains at every step. On summit plateau labyrinth of trenches and tunnels, only when very close you see it's all connected. Descended on MG-Nase-Weg (434), that's Austrian side. Path completely uninteresting and very slippery. Better descend south side on Alpiniweg (401). Summit well visited on Sunday, weather just right.
