From Italy over the Plöcken pass to Austria to the winter-closed Plöckenhaus inn. From there on skis past the artificial Green Lake, which is under ice and snow at this time, and further across meadows into the left, forest-covered slopes along the marked path to the upper Spielboden Alm pasture. There a short break, then on into the snowy and long southern slopes of Polinik. We spot old avalanches and guess where the accident of the Italian ski tourers happened on Saturday. As it turned out later right on that avalanche. Towards the top we remove skis, because that kind of walking is safer, also otherwise due to frozen snow we used crampons the whole time. At the top clear sky and sun greet us, which doesn't last long though, so skiing in the upper part is somewhat worse due to poor visibility, central part is really enjoyable, lower down real slush. The tour is safe in these conditions, have to count on steep slopes dangerous for slipping, otherwise Polinik is one of the nicer viewpoints above the Gail Valley.

Without skis or snowshoes walking is especially in the forest very strenuous due to sinking.

Described tour is exceptionally beautiful now when everything blooms and no peculiarities or annoyances on path. Some beauties I brought with me and they are on the link, also path recording.

Path from Plöckenhaus without peculiarities. Summit excellent viewpoint, but today weather due to fog and clouds didn't allow it.

New day, new goal. For a rest from the previous day we chose a more leisurely tour, this time to Polinik. The previous evening we had already descended to the former guesthouse Plöckenhaus, where we slept in the parking lot and set off very early towards the summit.

At the beginning we followed the well-known Carnic 403, then the markings directed us more to the left. There followed an ascent through the forest all the way to a pasture of unknown name, from there on the hike was pure enjoyment nasmeh

. The views were beautiful, we also had no complaints about the path above. It led us steadily all the way to the saddle Spielbodentörl, then along the eastern ridge towards the summit. Here the ground is a bit more rocky, but there are no particular difficulties anywhere. The summit is of course an ohoho viewpoint, on top of that we also had wonderful weather.

We returned the same way, because there really isn't any useful alternative. But in front of the hut on the pasture in a nearby trough we found a crate of chilled beer that the shepherds had left for the rare visitors. Commendable velik nasmeh

There are many remnants of the First World War in this area, as both Pala are in the immediate vicinity

Here the Slovenian Štefan Hvalič also found his final home

We continue along 403 past the artificial lake Grünsee

We turn towards Polinik. Walking across the meadow is quite adrenaline-inducing due to the numerous cow pats :)

Because of the cows the posts are surrounded by barbed wire. Because of this they do not rub against and knock down the signs

Through the forest we still walk in fog, but higher up the sun smiles on us :)

After the pass we are soon at the renovated alpine pasture. Interestingly, the left building is on wheels

One more look back. The morning mists are more magical than the view without them

Despite the sun it is still quite cold in the shade

The path is gentle, the ground comfortable

At the scenic summit. The cross is a little further ahead so it can be seen better from the valley. Quite Austrian style :)

Heh heh, I knew that the rock here is of volcanic origin :)

We are just before the alpine pasture. It could be that military structures once stood here

The grass is completely dry, so the cows have already been driven to the valley

This was left for the shepherds. Some are empty, but many are still full and ideally cooled :)

Well, this too is prepared for some romantic soul :)

I've been thinking about this peak for a long time and set off. On the Austrian side to the starting point, then everything is nicely marked. When I reached the summit it was foggy, but it soon cleared up and after half an hour when I descended back it fogged up again. AND back through this beautiful Austria everything arranged like from a box, fuel 2.15 euros at twice higher salary they have nothing bad.
