Beautiful tour, congrats Too bad you didn't do Castor too, I remember it similar to Breithorn, easy, just snow, ice axe, crampons and walking. Thirty years ago, plus minus a year, we were there. Castor and Pollux, Pollux I remember as quite demanding (tiring) due to mixed terrain, Castor seemed easy to me, similar to Breithorn, from which we ski descended to Cervinia a year later.

Thanks Yeah...Castor will have to wait until next time Pollux due to mixed terrain really isn't a piece of cake, but interestingly, from this side Castor even has a slightly higher rating. From the other - i.e. Quintino Sella hut - it's lower. Possible that in 30 years the rating or terrain has changed. Glacier is melting, a bit below the summit there's a crevasse where the world stands steeply upright. Quite possible it wasn't there then or was less pronounced.

Sometime between 1992 and 1994 I was there (with PZS), we slept in Theodul hut under Klein Matterhorn. Definitely different conditions, there was surely much more snow in summer back then, to Castor it wasn't harder than say our Veliki Draški, all the way snow and comfortable track. No terminal crevasses, rocks... Pollux mostly rocky, here and there some snow on the slope, and of course on the summit.
