Quite some time ago we spotted a sign for the Puanina Tour thematic trail in Ukve. The word *puanina* sounded so familiar that we chose it as a future goal already then  . And its time has finally come. The high mountains are still snow-covered, the trail was something new for us and the weather cooperated too.
We drove to the village of Ukve, which Slovenes settled already in the seventh century. They are still here today and Slovenian words can be heard in many places. We parked next to the cycle path, where there is plenty of space for cars. Parking in narrow village streets is not recommended. After a few hundred meters of walking we were already in the village and on the right looked for the first trail markers. It is circular and we could have gone left too, but we decided for counter-clockwise direction. The initial steepness was right away and just right for warming up in the cold morning  .
The trail leads from pasture to pasture and is exceptionally well marked. Lots of green info boards, pictorial representations and red, also thematic markers. Some only in Italian, some trilingual. Apart from basic vocabulary it is interesting that there are no explanations in Slovenian anywhere. No big deal  . The trail is beautifully laid out and basically intended only for hikers. Some sections are unsuitable for cyclists.
For us there was a lot unknown. We walked from pasture to pasture and almost everywhere there is some tourist farm. Drinks and food no problem, overnighting possible in some places. Walking surfaces all sorts, from forest paths to gravel and also some asphalt. Nowhere too much, nowhere too little. Just walk, look around and everything passes too quickly. We returned to the starting point from the other side and full of new impressions concluded the tour. Followed the obligatory coffee and drive home. More in the photo story …

In these parts we have three good coffee places checked out that we visit regularly. I warmly recommend all three .
First one in Ukve .... 46°30'38.1"N 13°28'23.3"E
Second next to Žabnica ... 46°30'24.7"N 13°31'03.2"E
Third in Trbiž ... 46°30'27.0"N 13°32'39.7"E

I recommend parking in the village center, free of course, from where it's just a short way to the church and thus to both starting points (depending on which direction you head on the path):
