Sentiero Scaloni, Sentiero dell Anglone

The Sentiero Scaloni path does not lead to any specific summit, but it is still an interesting choice for unstable weather days or to see something new. It is located near Lake Garda and is secured with cables in some places. It is hard to call it a ferrata, although this label is often found. The path leads to a detached ridge above Dro, which, due to the compact rock, is paradise for climbers. Above it runs the connecting path 428 B towards the descent path Sentiero dell Anglone. This has a similar character to Sentiero Scaloni. All together also has historical value, as the mentioned paths were used by farmers in old times for firewood preparation. On the ridge, remains of winches are still visible, over which they simply lowered prepared packages down sheer walls into the valley. We started at the arranged parking lot in the Ceniga settlement; there, across the road, are also the first signs for the path. Through the narrow settlement, we followed signs 428 all the way to the Roman bridge. There, the path crosses the river and for quite some time leads along a narrow asphalted road through vineyards to the uphill junction. Everything is marked, so no worries . The Scaloni path is an interesting passage to the ridge through mostly natural passages. All harder spots are secured. For ridge walking, we then followed signs 428 B. All the time, we thought this was another WW1 military path; well, later we found out it is not so. These paths date from around 1900, when farmers or foresters made them for wood hauling. The soldiers later just adapted them for their purposes. We descended via the already mentioned Sentiero dell Anglone, which, for my taste, is nicer than Sentiero Scaloni. It is similarly not difficult and well secured at all key spots. In the valley, we returned to the starting point along the gravel road right under the ridge. Despite a few kilometers of gravel, the return was very pleasant. Vineyards, huge kiwi and apple plantations follow one after another, and we could not marvel enough at what all grows here. The climate in these areas is really different from ours, and no wonder we walked in summer gear for most of the vacation despite the late date. Some useful data: Start: Ceniga (just before Dro) .... 45°57"02.6"N / 10°54"05.1"E (Google Maps_Android) Path length: 9 km / Ascent on path: 500 m Duration: 3.00 hours
