Stelvio National Park

At the beginning of this year's holiday I treated myself to a hike in Stelvio National Park. It lies in the Rhaetian Alps, which are west of the Dolomites. The Adige river valley separates the ranges.

The range is granitic, similar to e.g. High Tauern. Whoever has been there surely remembers the large granite blocks and dark mountains, different from our limestone ones, which are light and more crumbly. It's the same in Stelvio.

Trails are described in Lonely Planet - Walking in Italy. The highest altitude was Gleck peak 2958.

The park mainly extends over South Tyrol, part of it also in Trentino and Lombardy.

Very beautiful places. Let the pictures tell more.
