TORRE DI TOBLIN, MONTE PATERNO....

Hi, yesterday we wandered around the Tre Cime and conquered the mentioned peaks. Weather was super, no wind, warm and people in morning hours weren't too many.
We started at Rif. Auronzo and headed to Lavaredo hut and on to Locatelli hut and via ferrata Via delle Scalette to Torre di Toblin. Excellent, but short ferrata made of 17 ladders. Very exposed, don't recommend to vertigo sufferers. From the top we returned via another easier ferrata. Again to Locatelli hut and through military tunnels on to Monte Paterno. The tunnel is extremely low in some sections, so it's good to have a helmet on your head, let alone without one. Without helmet we wouldn't have gotten far  . At end of tunnel ferrata starts, which is much easier than ferrata on Toblin. We returned via poorly marked gully to saddle above Lavaredo hut and made a loop.
On Toblin we were alone, while Paterno is very popular.
Whole day we had excellent views on Tre Cime and Dolomites.

4.8.13 we were in Dolomites for the second time this year. Goal - Torre di Toblin, which we conquered in the afternoon at 16h. On the ferrata we were completely alone which was excellent and we did the ascent from Locatelli hut and descent to it in 1:15h. Sleeping in hut on shared bunks for PZS members 10€.

Since no Sunday without Sexten Dolomites we start at half-empty parking at Piano Fiscalino. After short flat start at Hut at end of valley - Fondovalle this time turn right on path 102 to Val Sasso Vecchio. Sun fully shines on us a bit below Piani dei Laghi, but there over 2000m and light breeze provides pleasant climate. At Locatelli hut we take right towards Torre di Toblin. Ferrata really short but requires quite some arm strength. Right at top we catch two Italians, who let us go ahead after admiring great views since one of them has no helmet! Path of Chaplain Hosp not too demanding but secured. Short break for snack at hut, where from tent behind hut smokes and familiar speech heard. Banjaluka guy grilling meat and sausages; says he'll be there another month and half. Continue through galleries-caverns towards Paterno, but not to summit instead at Forcelle Camoscio turn left east to ferrata delle Forcelle. This by difficulty doesn't exceed De Luca-Innerkofler ferrata. Secured parts alternate with longer unsecured and non-exposed trail sections, but overall quite long. To Büllelejochhütte we took around 2h, but with such views and details no wonder (this part of path new to us). Since return back on path 101 to Locatelli too easy we extended to Comici-Zsigmondy hut with breathtaking views on already shaded majestic north face of Zwölfer, which in famous Sexten hour plays role of Ponza. This really long tour ended on path 103. If for ascent to T. di Toblino at first stream on Piani dei Laghi shortcut and access ferrata directly via north slope (well visible from top) saves half hour. Overall path requiring fitness and on nice weather offers most one can expect even most demanding person on one tour.

On Friday 8.8.2014 we headed around the Tre Cime to Monte Paterno (Ferrata De Luca-Innerkofler) 2744m high. Weather ok, path excellent. From top wonderful view on Tre Cime, except some crowd on descent and waiting but that has to be  At Rifugio Locatelli didn't stop because too many people and continued towards ferrata Torre di Toblin 2617m. Ferrata exceptional and quite demanding. Not for those with vertigo! Both peaks nice and wonderful memories
