Veliki Koritnik - Creta di Aip - Trogkofel

From Cavalla I descend to bivouac Ernesto Lomasti, then a short stretch and back up to the path and under Great Koritnik or to the start of the short ferrata Crete Rosse. Ahead of me is a nice Austrian family, the kid is so excited about climbing that he greets me 3 times with hello. At some point I pass them and head to the plateau summit. Views are endless. I sit a bit and look around the familiar mountains nearby, then descend via the Austrian secured path Überlacher steig, cross Mokrin ski slopes and climb past the water park to Madrizze. Without strudel and beer of course. Then down, first a bit on the ski slope, then along the marked hiking path to Baite Winkel and to the parking at the barracks. Gotta repeat when the larches turn yellow.

Memories, memories when we arrive at Lonice...

Given the chosen company, it was quite hard to find a peak where at least one of us hadn't beenvelik nasmeh...this time we go to the other side of Lonice, but the view kept drifting to pleasant memories of Zermula and Zuc della Guardia...road to Lonice open, but since foresters were working, they let us through quickly and yes, they are really masters of their craft, especially on sections of this road that are still too narrow even for a "bicycle"eek, hehe

Mandatory morning excellent "latte macchiato", I had time since the guys were still having breakfast, then already looking for the right path. Well, they were chatting so muchjezik, hehhe, that we slightly missed, but soon chatting on the right path. The day promised sun, pleasant moderate steepness, but no one knew the tour would offer so much interesting...we ascended the secured Creta Rossa path, myself on "reglcih", although the harness bothered me morezadrega than anything, as the rock was excellent and the only drawback is that it's really a short gully for ascent. Then first surprise, the summit of Veliki Koritnik is a real huge plateau, a couple more steps and the deserved snack was shaking in our stomachs. Mandatory photos and sending our satisfied faces to "mami Anka" who couldn't come, we really missed hervelik nasmeh, then we start descent. Pure pleasure and it already looked too beautiful and too promenade-like, at the junction we decide for Alta Via Pontebba and yes, it didn't disappoint. Soon after green carpets, we descend by rope into a completely different crumbly broken world, with towers that nature really worked on, then up a bit down a bit, especially overcoming two "Primoževih" ledges, for which I just couldn't find footholds and my sprawling and hugging the rock looked really funny, especially for themzavijanje z očmi, while I sweated slight confusioneek, hehe. But since the peak at the end of Via Alta caught our eye earlier, we of course climb it too and the name, well there were so many variations that it would be easier to remember, but I have to "swing" the map a bit again...Zottach Kopfmežikanje, from which we descend via the Carinthian path to Sella Via Dolce and via sirarska path back to start, where a chilled B vitamin drink fits, hehe
Excellent tour, day full of endless views, company anytime anywhere, it was really fun and even though I was the only one in minority this time, with such company anywhere is great...and yes, the Idrija-Styrian connection proved excellent againnasmeh

Last weekend we did a nice and especially airy circular route over the Koritnik ridge to Monte Cavallo, returning through the valley to the starting point nasmeh.

There is still quite a bit of snow, but mostly no problems. The short but steep snowfield in the Koritnik ridge has probably already been crossed within one week.

The road to Lonice from Pontebba direction is officially closed due to damaged road surface in some places and I doubt there will be any repair this year. Low and long vehicles may have trouble. Alternative is access from Mokrin.

More about the route in photo comments ...

The first bend of the road is already a few kilometres from Studena Bassa1
The road is worst damaged 3 km before the pass, where in switchbacks it cuts the steep slope2
Long and low-slung vehicles can have problems3
Surprise at Lonice …. unannounced rain. We waited half an hour and got all the umbrellas from the car.4
Cheese dairy with a guesthouse at the pass. The parking lot next to it was empty5
Our path went left towards Zottachkopf and the lowest part of the Koritnik ridge6
Signpost to the very interesting Atila cave in the immediate vicinity of the path7
The entrance to the cave was still deeply snow-covered this time8
The access path runs in the direction of the gully between Zottachkopf and Koritnik ridge9
The weather was the complete opposite of the forecast. It was already raining heavily towards the Julians10
Zermula was still in the sun, but not for long11
A little higher in the gully the blue-red markings of the high alpine Pontebana greet us12
On the panoramic summit of Zottachkopf with the Austrian flag on the edge13
We go up there14
Right at the back that green one is Hochwipfel, that rocky one is the just visited Zottachkopf15
The Koritnik ridge serves up wild scenery and a nicely routed, well-marked path16
Along the path17
Rain was constantly threatening us, but fortunately nothing more came of it18
Just one steep snowfield, which may have melted in a week19
Wild, wild. The path goes up and down and only slowly ascends20
Steep gully that also needs to be reworked21
Start of the secured section of the path. The cables are currently flawless22
The rock step is quite steep and without protection it would be impassable for most23
Ascent over the secured path, mostly with good holds24
Upper part of the ridge where the path levels out25
View towards Konjič (Monte Cavallo), where our feet will take us that day26
The ridge is well marked because several ascent routes meet there27
There is quite a bit of snow, but on the south side it is no obstacle28
At the summit of Koritnik29
We descended via the attractive via ferrata Creta Rossa.30
Some details are really interesting :)31
Everything is well secured, but it's still not for everyone. Difficulty is in the B/C range.32
In the lower section of the via ferrata, which has been newly equipped for several years.33
We continue towards Monte Cavallo.34
Along the path to the saddle everything is full of flowers ...35
 ... all colors36
 ... and shapes37
Here we will return past the bivouac and further down the valley38
Torre Clampill with its characteristic shape and attractive via ferrata39
View back to Koritnik40
Access to Monte Cavalo is on the north side, where there is still a lot of snow41
At the summit. We met three Slovenians, two of them from Idrija. We met one of them a week earlier on Monte Lavari :)42
We're still going up there, to Klondike43
At the summit, from where there is a beautiful view far around44
The return went past the Lomasti bivouac45
Typical Italian bivouac, very visited in summer46
Interior of the bivouac. The insulation in bivouacs of this type is asbestos between two metal sheets47
Even deep below the bivouac it's still full of snow. The path luckily avoids it48
View back on the traversed path. Left of the saddle is Koritnik, right Monte Cavallo49
Return. Above us stretches the ridge of Koritnik50
Past the mountain pasture and the loop will soon be closed51
Conclusion at the cheese dairy. Due to the road closure from Pontebba direction they have much less visitors. Mostly motorcyclists52

Over the weekend it's not possible to drive on the road, as the carabinieri who are waiting on the path towards the pass stop you.

@Branee: you go from the other side (Paularo). mežikanje

Anyway the road is officially still closed, at least this weekend from Pontebba side no carabinieri, up top lots of cars too. Barely passable, not as bad as on @bagijevih pics anymore. At least the upper part is newly asphalted, but there remains one nasty section somewhere in the lower middle, where right in the incline the road is completely without asphalt and fully torn up.

For Great Koritnik you can also go from Austrian side (from Tröpolach to Rudnigalm), from there maybe (at least for Uiberlacher and ferrata) even shorter access. Road to Rudnigalm is gravel, also slightly 'demanding', from Mokrin it's about an hour longer.

We drove to Lonci via Paularo and the road is still as narrow as it was. Larches above the pass will shed in the first wind, for now still a bit to see. We ascended to the summit via ferrata Crete Rosse, descended via the western ridge where you follow red-blue markers. Warning that this path isn't exactly for everyone; it's mostly unprotected and little walked. You have to grab the rock in many places, but in such weather such a path is pure pleasure

We ascended to Koritnik via ferrata Crete Rosse, descended via the unsecured normal approach marked 416. The protections in the ferrata are in good condition, didn't encounter snow anywhere. Also in other hills around there's much less snow than in our Julians.

Road from Pontebba to Cason di Lanza pass is in decent shape, some asphalt breaks in the lower part require snail pace. Problem can be meeting on the narrow road, since weekend traffic is quite heavy. On the pasture they've expanded tourist offer big time and accordingly everything around is full of tin cans.
Start at Lonice pass and follow path 439 to the right of the alpine pasture1
View back to Monte Zermulo and Zuc della Guardia2
Planina Val Dolce along the path3
Higher up we join the Karnijska 403 and continue to the right4
Still signposts for both directions. We will descend nearby here5
View back at the beautiful path 403 below the slopes of Koritnik.6
Soon we are at the entrance to the Crete Rosse ferrata.7
The route has long been known to us, it mostly runs in the gully.8
No snow anywhere, just lots of mud due to constant rain.9
The safety gear is in good condition, mostly of the looser type.10
The hardest passage, requiring just a few strong pulls.11
Some more steep terrain follows, where we overtake two Austrians.12
Exit and salute to the sun :)13
View of Monte Cavallo. Surprisingly little snow.14
The obligatory summit photo…15
And we are already descending towards the normal approach via path 416.16
There are incredibly many markers, most of them renewed.17
We leave the summit section and descend into an unprotected passage.18
In many places it is necessary to hold onto the rocks.19
The descent runs through such terrain, the direction is excellently marked.20
Just a bit more exercise and soon we will be on the lower cross path.21
We are back on Karnijska 403. This time we go in the opposite direction from this morning.22
We walk towards the west and it will be like that all the way to the Rattendorfer saddle.23
Karnijska 403 is really a beautiful path that we fully explored a few years ago.24
View back on Koritnik. In the foreground are fields of blooming gentian.25
We return along path 458. In the background is Monte Zermula, where we will continue.26
Cheese dairy at Lonice pass and huge amount of sheet metal in its surroundings.27
GPS track of the walked path. Altogether it came to 12 km and 900 elevation meters.28
